Looking for a 5C 5/32" Hex Collet
Kim:
In addition to finishing up my steam tractor, I'm in pretty heavy acquisition mode revving up for my new project. Some new tools & new stock! :)
And one of the things I'm looking for is a 5C 5/32" Hex Collet. I can't find one anywhere. Do they exist?
If I can't find one I'll have to use my 3 jaw or something! I love using my collet chuck.
If anyone has any pointers, I'd love to hear!
Thanks,
Kim

Hi Kim, there is one offered at eBay in the US from Hardinge.

Hi Kim,
I had exactly the same problem in trying to find a 5/32" 5C collet and in the end am using a 4mm 5C collet instead and the 0.03mm difference in size, or 1.2 thou is insufficient to cause any holding problems.

Kim,
I cant help you find that collet but, I was looking for R8 collets for 3/8-24 & 5/16-24 tap drills at work and ended up with a 10mm and everything with a 3/8 shank. I think mills have moved on to ER style collets. At the Zanesville show I bought a R8 to Morris taper2 so I could use the Jacobs 1/2 inch drill chuck from the lathe in the mill.

Thanks Achim, I'll check out ebay! There are some Hardinge collets on Amazon, but not a 5/32" :(
Mike, good thought on the 4mm. I had considered that but was equally unable to find a 4mm 5C Hex collet. But I'll keep looking.
Art, I seem to find a lot of both R8 and 5C collets around. Its just the Hex and 5/32" that is causing me the problem. Glad you were able to sort your situation!
Kim
