Gingery cylinder lap
(1/1)
oltrucks39:
Hello everyone. Faced with having to lap the DOM cylinder for the Perkins engine I'm building, I came across a nice aluminum lap design in Vince Gingery's book Building the Atkinson Cycle Engine. It uses a 7 degree internal mandrel and matching internal bore on the lap. This design could easily be adapted to virtually any bore size. This bore lap works very well.

so the set screw goes in the slot as a key.....how do you adjust the OD? is there a screw or tap tap tap?
I build one of those engines, a very nice project....myself and I'm sure many here would enjoy photos of your progress

There is a bolt (not shown) that threads into the small end of the tapered mandrel that sets the diameter, and then the set screw is tightened to maintain it.
