MID-EAST OHIO MODEL ENGINEERING EXPO! 2018
« on: September 16, 2018, 10:48:54 PM »
Yes gents it's that time of the year. This year there have been many changes beginning with the date. This year it's September 29th. The venue has changed from the fair grounds to the airport. There will be the model show and also a car show and vintage airplanes will be flying in if I have my facts straight. Should be a great day so if you are in need of something to do, head over there and see the sights.

Yes I will see you all there. I'm all set, have to be my wife is driving, spending a week in Akron, PA. and picking me up in Columbus. She has a work related training and is taking vacation to visit her mother. All I need to do is pack up the car tomorrow after I get home from work.

This is a great model engine show to go to, but I'm also excited about the fly-in aspect. I really love vintage aircraft. I followed the link on the flyer http://www.facebook.com/eaavintage22 and found that the main attraction will be the B-25 "Champagne Gal". They will be giving B-25 rides. If there are any seats left, I may just spring for a ride. How often do you get a chance like that?

You should be able to sign up for a ride on the EAA website if they are the one runnng the plane. I sprang for a flight on their B17, once in a lifetime chance, truly a wonderful day.

I can see with cars, airplanes and engines it's gonna be hard to sit in one spot.

Well it's almost 4:30am. Cant sleep. Will be shoving off about 5:30. Truck is all packed. I will be visiting some family and be in the hanger early friday morning. I will have a box of Dale Detrich spark plugs with me if anyone needs a 1/4-32 or 8-40 plug. I will also have along gasket sets for the demon. They will be behind the table so if you need something just ask me. Also if you are building a Little Demon stop and show me some pictures or better yet bring them along.

Sure wish I could get away I'd love to meet you and talk a little. But can't we are kind of tied down right now taking care of my mother & father-in-law. Neither one are doing all that well and they still live at home. Have fun Steve!

I'm curious about the turnout at the show, and I thought there might be some pictures posted. Being in Texas, I was unable to go.

Thanks,

Hi Maury,
I didn't have time to take pictures, maybe someone else can help with that. The new venue was much improved over the old location at the fairgrounds.
They put us in a hanger in the middle of the car and motorcycle show. There was a B-25 there that they were selling rides in. Tim Vought went up in it and was thrilled. The spectator crowd was much improved over the old show but that's probably because of the mixed venue. The crowds started about 9:30am and picked up as the day went on. I didn't have time to get around much because I talked to people quiet a bit and didn't want to leave my engines unattended. There were a lot of the modelers from NAMES and quite a few new ones that I hadn't seen before.
It's supposed to be a 2 day show next year.

I'm afraid I didn't get pictures either. The new venue is good, and like George said, spectator traffic was steady. The car and fly-in people are an enthusiastic bunch to introduce to our hobby. I had a few people tell me they came for the car show, but could happily spend all day looking at model engines.

And yes, I was thrilled to take a ride in "Champaign Gal". The plane was magnificent, and was restored by Champaign Aircraft Museum in Urbana, Ohio.  The museum has a B17 restoration in progress. Maybe in a couple more years...

George, Tim, Thanks for the update. Sounds like the show was a lot of fun. Wish I could have been there.
