Fun day at Brands Hatch
« on: September 16, 2018, 11:57:51 AM »
As a change from playing with fractional horsepower engines, I got my hands on something a bit bigger today with a Supercar driving experience at Brands Hatch racing circuit. With drives in an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Audi R8, Ferrari California, and Lamborghini Gallardo, I calculate that I had somewhere in the region of 2000 horsepower at my disposal!
All were mighty impressive, but the Lamborghini in particular was breathtakingly fast, and like all of the others, the roadholding was quite unbelievable.
As part of the package I came home with loads of action shots of each car and 360 degree video of each drive.

What a fun day it must have been too Ray. Can you post one of the videos as well?

Funny you should post this. I did the same thing here in michigan. I Drove the lamborghini huracan for 3 laps at Michigan International Speedway for 3 laps. The first lap was conservative, the second lap you get a little braver and by the third lap you have the tires squealing in the turns. I guess thats why they only give you three laps. Was your experiance about the same?

BTW the GPS box that records your data was about 8 MPH slow. The speedo said 151MPH at the end of the straight the second time down.

Excellent  :)  :)  I used to be able to scare myself enough with a 110BHP Triumph Herald on the sprint and hillclimb courses. Current horsepowers are getting ridiculous, my son-in-law has a 480+BHP Audi A6, scarey  :paranoia:
Best regards

Roger

Hi Roger, that is the common power needed to generate  light and heat for my daily way to work. 30 km one way, with an average speed of 3 km/h at the A99 around Munich. I could imagine that it will be very similar to the M26 or other motorways in UK.
Kind Regards
Achim

I have a video of the Lamborghini drive but the file is almost 1GB. Does anyone know how to reduce this to a suitable size for posting on the forum?

Could you try an upload to Youtube and share the link on the forum?

You would want to re-encode it to a smaller size before trying to post. A lot depends on what format it is, and what computer you have, PC, Mac? There are a lot of freeware video encoders out there, some come with the operating system. One good one is HandBrake, free. Its probably a DVD, most encoders will be able to take the .vob files from the disk and convert them to SVCD or Mpeg for you.

Thanks for the advice guys. The file is mp4 format and I have now loaded the Lamborghini drive to YouTube.
This is the link. Hope you enjoy.I will post the links for the other three drives once I have loaded them to YouTube.
My only frustration is that the in car footage does not show speed, etc, so I have no idea of my speed at the end of the straight but it was pretty fast!

Thanks for the video Ray. I could hear you getting louder on the pedal on each lap. It sure leapt forward when you committed to pass inside that other black car on Clearways.
Looked like great fun
