Which Beam Engine?
« on: September 20, 2018, 02:37:31 PM »
I acquired this 15" long, 2" high by 1" wide beam the other day out of a scrap box  :o  :hammerbash:

We are not sure what it is off of. Does any one know?

Sure has a lot of that special coating on it. Will it clean up ? Looks like there could be some pitting.

Almost certainly a Stuart Major, right sort of length being just a little longer than the 14" flywheel diameter and the double recess in the webs is the same. Is there any number cast on the other side? Should be easy enough to scratch build the rest.

Andy Chipmaster has one so should be able to confirm

The other side has features  :facepalm2: Bill but nothing that I could not fix.

We did think it could be a Major just it seemed smaller than I remember on a major but this would be the third part of one that has "found its way" into the collection.... I wasn't planning another beam engine, in fact I was going to let another set of beam engine castings go shortly

Yes you’re right Jason, I have checked the measurements of my Stuart Major Beam. It is 15” long x 2” high in the centre and 1” thick.

With the amount of casting fondling you do Jo I would have thought you could name any casting just by handling it blindfold. As it is Thursday night I suggest you have a bit more practice with the little fellow to guide you. ;)
