Hello everyone,

Couple of photos showing the Floorboard now painted with two coats of the same paint that I used on the Chassis. If my back will hold up a little longer, I should be able to start some parts assembly of the Body and a few Cleco fasteners installed by this coming week.

Have a great day,
Thomas

Hello Bill,

Yes the underside also has two coats, I painted it first and let it dry overnight. We are having some beautiful weather for East Texas in late July, mid 80's and very low humidity so I painted it outside under the carport. The paint was drying almost as fast as I could apply it. I still have the Frames to make and assemble and will paint them with the same paint. Then I will screw the Floorboard on top of the Frames and that assembly will then be bolted down on the Chassis. The Body actually fits over this assembly and covers the sides of the Floorboard and Frames. From the outside, all you see will be the Body and the Chassis.

Have a great day,
Thomas

Hello everyone,

I just uploaded a short video which pretty much winds up the work on the Chassis and running gear. The next series of videos will cover assembly of the Body and eventually mounting the Body to the Chassis.

Have a great day,
Thomas

Looking real good Thomas!
What are your plans for the fuel tank? Where will that be mounted & will a fuel pump be required?

Hello John,

I have two possible locations for the fuel tank. One would be behind where the passenger would sit and the second would be on the same side but further back near the first bend in the Turtle Back. If it is the later, then it would be mounted on supports. On both locations the tank should be high enough so that no fuel pump would be required. Remember this is a "slant" engine and the carburetor is mounted fairly low. The tank will be mounted on the Chassis and not the Engine Frame, which will be the "softest" ride.

Have a great day,
Thomas

That's looking really cool, Thomas!  A lot of work has gone into that chassis.

Can't wait to see the body construction!

Hello Kim,

I am so pleased to see the Chassis almost completed, but excited to now get started on the Body.

Have a great day,

Hello Roger,

The quality of work in the Laser Cutting and the precise bending on each part is beautiful. This will surely make the final assembly of all the parts much easier. I have started assembling the Turtleback and basically all that was needed was to slightly "round" the edge on the side panels where they join at the inside radius of the bend for the flange. I used a flapper disc on my grinder to remove the sharp edge to match that inside radius.

Have a great day,
Thomas

Hello everyone,

Got the first set of panels drilled and temporarily held in place with Cleco fasteners. This is the Turtleback, which is the back top section of the Body that covers the Engine. There are 3 pieces of angle and 1 brace and the pair of stainless steel hinges that still need to be installed but will wait on them until I can trial fit this on the Body.   :whoohoo:

Have a great day,
Thomas

Hello Bent,

I would suggest that you get your bucket in gear and head this way if you plan to be a test driver :lolb:

Have a great day,
Thomas
