Sounds great, looking forward to seeing the in-process assembly.

And I assume your shop elves have ordered their goggles and scarves?

Hello Chris,

Awh, I have a bunch of rebels and they refuse to wear goggles and helmets. They have ordered a bunch of do-rags with Skulls and Crossbones  :LittleDevil:

Have a great day,
Thomas

I assume some 1/4-turn fasteners will be used for an engine bay hatch?  Or are you able to drop the engine down on its frame to work on it?  Either way, I'm sure you have a good plan.

Hello Bent,

Well sort-of, the Engine Compartment will have access via a Turtleback Hatch. From behind the drivers seat down about half of the side and straight back to the rear, that upper area will open on a set of hinges at the rear. I will upload a drawing of this tomorrow and it will make more sense. By making the rear opening Turtleback Hatch, this will give full access to all of the drive components plus the engine and will make servicing really easy.

Have a great day,
Thomas

The hinges sound like a pretty good idea Thomas.

Hello John,

Thank you I think this will work very nicely. I am attaching a pdf drawing showing the Turtlrback Hatch in an open at 45 degree angle. I may allow it to open in a greater degree after I get it installed and do some testing.

Have a great day,
Thomas

Hello everyone,

I am attaching a "painted" version of the Buggy with the Turtleback open, I think this will show better than the pdf copy.

Have a great day,

That looks good Thomas.  As long as you can get to the air cleaner, plugs, carb...and if not, opening the hatch a bit further gives more room...should be fine.  She's gonna be red?

Hello Chris,

Thank you, I agree that the proportions are nice and aesthetically pleasing. The Turtleback is a result of the work you did on the all wood body when we were working on that design. I sure like it much better than the two side and the one top opening that I had originally designed.

Thanks again and have a great day,
Thomas

Hello Bent,

Yes, most of the Engine is exposed for easy access. If you look closely at the painted version, you can see in the open area the outline of the Engine ( the black colored area ) which is about 75% of the Engine. Looking straight down you would be able to see the crankshaft and the driver pulley. Also note how much opening over the top of the Engine, that small raised area is the gas cap. However that fuel tank will be removed along with the muffler which will add even more room for servicing.

Color....how about Cherry Wine Maroon, with either Gold or Black pin striping  :cartwheel:

Hello everyone,

Went into town this morning and purchased a sheet 4' x 8' x 1/2" treated plywood for the floorboard. This treated wood is heavy and hard to cut but with a good coat of paint it should last forever. As you can see, got it cut to shape and trial fit on the Chassis. The ply wood will sit on and be fastened to some 1" thick by 3" wide framing that will sit directly on the Chassis.

Have a great day,
Thomas

Hello Chris,

It's not rough but it is  also not real smooth. However I went over it lightly with a sander and I will apply two coats of the same paint that I used on the Chassis and it should be plenty smooth then.

As far as  the shop elves leiderhosen.....I have a strict policy of "don't ask and don't tell :noidea:

Have a great day,

Hello Bill,

Yep, all those little baby steps are now adding up. Got real lucky today, it was only 82 degrees and working under my carport with a good breeze was quite comfortable.

Have a great day,
Thomas
