Spark plug cables.
« on: August 12, 2018, 08:37:27 PM »
I am working on the ignition system for my 1/3 scale Bristol Jupiter.

I need to find about 20 foot of suitable high voltage spark plug cable to make the ignition harness for the two dummy magnetos, that's 18 spark plug leads plus the coil leads.

What cable types are suitable and where can I buy the cable?

So far I have found Hemingway and S/S. Are there any other suppliers?

Thanks for your help and advice

Mike

Silicon test lead wire is quite popular.

I use the S/S stuff.

Julian at Minimag may also be able to supply cable as you need a reasonable amount.

I use a lot of SS stuff ignition units and their wire, excellent service and help there.
I have also got some off e-bay 10kv 22gage silicone wire for some of my hit miss engines.

If there are any neon sign makers close to you try and see if you can get some of the high voltage wire they use.  Also if you might check with any electricians that do high voltage work, some of the instrumentation wire used there would probably work.

Be sure you tell them what you need it for, they could know of something else that might work.  They might even donate some short pieces to you, and Donuts always help to put/keep the wheels in motion.

I took Doc's advice and searched e-bay. It's easier when you know how it's described.

I have 20 metres of 3mm diameter, silicone insulated, 20KV cable on the 'slow boat from China'.

I will be able to donate some cable to everyone's projects, just ask. You can then tell me if it works. Ha ha :zap:
