Impressive little beastie!  My shop elves would use it to make little suits of armor. Bet there are cnc schools that would use that sort of thing for teaching without needing large labs.

Just imagine it banging out those track plates while you sit back with a lemonade and a mint cookie.   :wine1:

I thought that the mint cookies were to bribe reward the shop elves for doing all real work.

I think that machine needs a real field trial. Like 76 stainless steel track segment, 1-1/2" wide x 3/4" x 1/2", they should send me one for free to stress test!

Yes?  I am waiting... Hmmmm, no box on front porch, rats!

The true 5-axis toolpaths require a quite sophisticated CAM system.    Simpler parts can use 3+2, where the A and B axes are used to orient the work into the XY plane.  Nevertheless that allows access to 5 of 6 sides.

The software is Fusion 360 which has 5 axis simulations cam. I see in the Gallery a piece of a bevel gear done in wood so I am very interested in a machine that can make true bevel gears. the homepage says it is designed to cut 4140 steel and softer. The center of the trunion will take a special fixture for ER40 collets. I have to save up a bit for one of these.

One question I'd have is whether the free version has 5-axis.

Yes it does it’s the generate part that is not included

I believe it’s flow that does it

The sticky bit is the post processor to drive it , the PP. code may need modding do they say what the controller is and do A360 have a post for it

My post is based on the mach4 one but I have done a lot of mods to mine , eg the cutter comp ( in contour the setting in control ) Is outputted incorrectly with with a Pxx value which is just a fixed amount of 1.5 dia it should out put a Dxx value which allows the setting in the tool table in M4 for wear to have an effect , and yes I have tested it to nest a small fish belly rod in a pocket for the second op

My aim is for a accurate part with a good finish

Stuart,
The controller is a Beaglebone Black running Machinekit. It says that Fusion 360 has a post processor see:

Should be good to go then

Looks a nice bit of kit I have enough trouble with 4 axis ,it’s a small mill and gets a bit cramped with the 4 th on but it get the job done if it will go,on the table and I can draw and cam it up  :killcomputer:

The best thing is it’s surface finish it is a slow machine but it gives me a exalant result
My aim is for a accurate part with a good finish
