A nice start to your casting collection Bill  8)

I really need to get all these partial builds completed!!

Even the best of us have engines they have never finished  ::) but it is nice to have to be able to pick and choose which one to work on next   :)

Years ago when setting up my ship model shop space (now my steam engine model space) I put one of the benches down the center of the room so I could work on both sides...

I have that kind of setup in the workshop at my place in France. It's great, it optimises bench space, and it feels like luxury to have all four sides accessible. Definitely the way to go, I reckon.

The granite guy dropped off the surface plate today at the new house. Made form a piece of the bathroom countertop granite, it is 3cm thick (1.18 in.) And cut to 12"x18" with the top edges beveled. Should be a nice addition. Now have to find a place for it to stay.

Nicest looking surface plate in a 4-state radius I'll wager!  :D  Mine is pretty nice too, and is similarly acquired from the guy that put our kitchen countertops in.

Thanks Bent. He also did a 12" x12" one for the house I guess  for like a cheese board or cutting board, but think it would dull knives rather quickly so we'll see about that one.

Bill,
I acquired two cast iron surface plates that a friend saved from the scrap bin when his place of employment was cleaning house. Must admit they are great things to have around. One is at home in the shop and one went to work. Probably shouldn't use glass or granite for a cutting board unless you like sharpening knives, go with your first thought on that one.

Art, I have been using a Blanchard ground steel plate about the same thickness. Has worked well, but also prone to some rusting. Shouldn't be an issue once I move it to the shop, but still think the granite will be better overall.

Not many changes Zee. Did get the ceiling up in the bath though. Been having to spend more time on the house lately. Was out there all day today....septic system was put in, then the well guy showed up after lunch and was still going at 7pm. Same well, but all new lines to the shop and house, new well pump, pressure tank, and filtration system goes in tomorrow. Haven't forgotten the shop video though.

Several days later and FINALLY the well work is finished. Pretty much everything except the well itself is new and this rather hi-tech filtration system seems to be functioning properly though from the final tests yesterday and going through the automatic backwash cleaning routine on both filter tanks, I am glad that is programmed to happy in the middle of the night as it is a somewhat noisy process. If anyone has a similar system, I would love to hear of your experiences. Supposedly, it shouldn't need maintenance for 4 or so years. Time will tell I guess. This did open up a bit more room in the mechanical closet though there is a maze of pipes and valves. Hoping I won't have to replace the vertical air compressor any time soon. Oh, and I still need to get the old pressure tanks out of there...its 24" diameter and the door clearance is 23.5".  Thinking I will slice off enough down one side to get it out rather than replacing the door. An abrasive disk goes through it easily enough. A couple of pictures of the maze are below. Will try to get a video walkaround over the weekend and post it up.

No video yet. I believe that may be your only failure.  ;D
