My vote is bright walls too. I've gotten to the point I want as much light as I can get.
Except for in the morning. I mean early morning.

When we moved in here 11 years ago the garage/shop was completely unfinished inside. No wiring, nothing. So when the wall board went up I had it fire taped and then I painted it all white. Two coats.

For the first time in my life I now have good light in all the corners.... :whoohoo:

Paint it, Bill! You'll love it.  :stickpoke:

I chose a light green for my workshop walls as it brings a summery countryside feel to the workshop with White ceiling to help the lights  :)

I used a mid blue upto 4ft as I had a can spare and that is the area that tends to get marked more often or is obscured by machines/benches then white to walls and ceiling above that to reflect as much light as possible

Naw put plenty of good 1kw GES  lamps in and paint the walls black so it won’t show the dirty bits  :Jester:

 :stir: :stir: :stir:

No just use led daylight lamps and use any off white emulsion paint ,make a good jog as you will be very reluctant to do it over again  :lolb:

Coming along nicely.

You are at the choosing the colours stage now. That's progress!

Quick update from Friday and yesterday. The residing continues and 95%or the old siding has been removed. They should make some good progress tomorrow as to getting the remainder of the new siding up. With all the vines that had grown up over the years and worked their way beneath the siding in places, I feel very lucky there wasn't more damage to the underlying wood. Once the siding is up they will add the vinyl soffits and finish boxing in everything with alumimun to cover any remaining exposed wood like window casings, facia boards, etc. The I assume the roof will come in last but this is still progress.

Yesterday another surplus cold saw I was storing for a friend got picked up which freed up the last corner that needing a good cleaning. Old computer desk is now gone and I have more room to work on that far side. Hopefully it will start looking whole again after tomorrow or Tuesday.

Is that three meters on the building?

Yes Zee, one is for the well pump. One is for the 120/240v service to the building, and the third one is for the three phase power coming in. The original builder had separate meters for the pump and building for reasons I have never understood, but I have left it as is.

Any thoughts on going solar? I suspect the shop may be a bit small but what about the new home?
We did that when we renovated last year. I'm pretty satisfied with it (although this hasn't been the best year because of so much rain).
Had a couple of months where we had excess production.
Take tax rebates into account. That covered more than a third of the cost and the whole thing should be paid off in another 8 years.

Hadn't really thought about it Zee. I am considering a whole house standby generator though since wife is on oxygen. We we're lucky during Florence but the potential for power loss for more that a few hours got me thinking on that.

Some solar systems include battery backup. We didn't take that route. We rarely lose power and when we have, it's for short periods and my generator is sufficient to keep food cold, have a light, and enjoy a movie.
We thought the battery technology will improve so we didn't put one in. We may later.
Even battery may not last as long as you may need.
