Well, we have a new electrical panel. Still some finishing touches like labeling the circuits, final inspection, etc. Since the incoming service and meter are rated for 200 amps, the new panel is also. The old one was only 150. Even the old one had spare slots for breakers, the new panel should have more even after putting in the two double breakers for the new heat pump and air handler system. I will be keeping two dedicated 230 volt circuits as well as they may come in handy for things like a heat treat furnace in the future. They had previously been used for a window AC unit and a pellet dryer from back in the injection molding days, neither of which are needed now.

 8) Be careful when you put the cover on that Bill - I am sure the Workshop Gnome moved into my 3ph box when I installed it  :disappointed:

Thankfully he seems to have been busy in there, I am hopeful it is all just DIY and I have not seen much of him since. My only concern is that he might have been busy extending the family and I will inundated with workshop Gnomes looking to collect shiny things in the future

Looking good Bill. Nice to have plenty of capacity for sure. Looks like a solid install, all to code and above board. Got to like that. I had a go at house hunting last year - some of the things you find are shocking. or at least - could very well be. :D

Red insulation is a new one on me for house wiring and I don't recall seeing any when we renovated the house last year.
Something different about usage? Different codes in your area?

Don't you love seeing an open electrical panel so you can see all those electrons moving to/from your machines?  ;D

Red is used for a second leg on 220, for traveler wires on multiple switches for a single fixture, and other things. Not for "normal" 120 stuff.

One comment, a pet peeve of mine: Most electricians do a panel like yours, Bill, and don't leave service length in the wires. Wires should come into the box, go up (or down) the length of the box then back down (or up) to the breaker. This ensures that there is enough wire to reach any breaker in the box, so if re-location of a breaker is necessary the wire will still reach.

I also see that the top right has rain-tight EMT connectors. Is that a local requirement or just what was to hand? No problem, just curious.

OK, I', OCD about a lot of stuff..

Most of there wires were run about 25 years ago when I bought the property. The only new wires run today are for the outside heat pump unit, attic air handler and an outlet for each for service purposes I guess, to meet local code. The outlet (plus a light in the attic) have to be on separate circuits from the main disconnects for the air handler and compressor units. Hopefully it will all pass inspection tomorrow. Thanks Pete. I do recall some of that now.

I am tired of working in the dark  :zap:

I'm always in the dark.

Don't get tired of it. Once in a while the ol' light bulb flicks on and you want to be able to see it.  ;D

I’m still following along with you. Here’s a good one for y’all. I have a customer that has a severe ant problem in his shop. They work their way into the light switches and start tripping breakers

Sorry if this is a tangent...but what do you do about the ants?
I have a light switch, as well as the pool on/off control, and the stinking ants get into the switches and ruin everything.
What do you suggest to keep them away?

I only ask because wife keeps bugging me about the pool light.
Which I don't understand. We're not out there after dark. (Not that I wouldn't want to be...IF...you know what I mean  :lolb: )

I'll give it a try. I'm at the point I'll try anything including flame throwers.

Couple years ago I had a carpenter ant ant pro, used a granual product that the ants take back to the nest, worked great. Don't recall the name, the home center carried it. Spectracide also makes a great ant spray.
