Thomas, the grading guy also supplies the construction dumpsters for contractors. He is going to to bring an extra one for the shop renovation. I have a LOT of stuff to get rid of...lol.

Are you going to enter next year's 4th of July parade with it? You know, where all the geezers ride lawn tractors?  :lolb:

(Not making fun of that. It's a great time.)

Nah, but we do have a parade of power on the Friday of our October show...it goes from the park down through the little town of Dallas and back . Might do that, we'll see.

You could mount a chain saw to that roll cage thing, to automatically trim tree limbs.

You're welcome.

Safety third and all that. I'm full of ideas today.
Why did I just think of the Mad Max movies....!   :o

Hi Bill,
Nice toy! Miss my ride on from time to time.

Now IF you lived down this end of the planet we have lawn mover racing! NO mower decks allowed, but hay you don't want to ease off on the corners right?

Cheers Kerrin
Get excited and make something!

This got done yesterday by the grading contractor. First picture is where the house will be. Second is the shop now that most of the growth has been cleared away.

Hello Bill,

You sure have your priorities in the right order. Get the workshop sorted first, somewhere to live can follow.

Good luck with the whole project. This is one where the destination is more important than the journey

Mike
It is the journey that matters, not the destination

Sometimes, it can be a long and winding road

Agreed Mike, and this can be done while the house is under construction.

I have been doing some measuring and planning at the shop trying to get a handle on where things will go eventually. Easy enough to just move them around on paper beforehand. I have drawn up a floorplan to help in that regard attached below. Note that the Craftsman Lathe and Aliant Mill and Cold Saw will remain in their current locations as they have worked out well as is and the mill and cold saw both have 3 phase breaker/lockout boxes located above . The workbenches along the left and right walls are already there as well though the countertops will likely be replaced. The bathroom vanity will also be replaced. There are still other things not yet shown like the Kennedy toolchest, riser and roller base that will likely be along the back wall between the lathe and mill, a drillpress, the Hegner scroll saw, and another roll around workbench currently being used for the Cowells lathe here at home. Also various other typical things like a bench grinder, Foredom bench mill (polisher), band saw, belt and band sanders, and so forth. Not shown but in the plan are wall mount cabinets for additional storage of accessories, tooling and such. The mechanical room where the compressor is located will likely be used for raw material storage and casting aging  ;). Though I guess there can never be too much room, I think there should be sufficient space for future additions like a heat treating area (maybe on the left wall countertop, and a small oven for powder coating if I ever get into that. Its still a work in progress but plenty of time to adjust things as needed as the more basic renovations proceed.

It's a fun time to plan a shop. Enjoy!
Kudos if you get it the 1st time.
I'm in the midst of thinking of improvements. Got most of it. But I can't find a place for the vise. Imagine!

That's a beautiful shop, Bill!  You should be able to do a lot with that space.  And you're own bathroom and fridge - you won't have to go in the house very often with all those comforts!

Can't wait to see it all come together.

Where is the kettle and the combination oven/microwave

I can recommend an Island bench for fitting out models
