Shopping Trolley for Castings
« on: June 04, 2018, 05:26:18 PM »
In light of Surus' latest acquisition of castings I felt the need for a new casting set shopping trolley  :embarassed: .. well its new to me... I was dragged round an Autojumble yesterday and it looked so lonely so we brought it home for some TLC. It looks like who ever originally brought it never finished assembling it and left it outside for 10 years :ShakeHead: My supplier is bending up a replacement pedal for it  :) other than that and the missing split pin on the bottom of the ram (there was a paperclip in there  :paranoia: ) I just have to find somewhere to put it.

Hopefully 500Kgs should be sufficient for any casting sets that might come my way  :mischief:

The only item missing from the hydraulic table was the pedal so my supplier took the opportunity to bend up an arm to match the one off of his hydraulic table for me in exchange for a Sticky wotsit  ;)

In the mean time I had brought a Taxi clutch pedal rubber and mounted it on a home made pedal. Which has been mounted in a way that lets it rock as the pedal goes up and down  ;D

We are calling that done and Surus now just needs some castings to test it with  :pinkelephant:

Strange you should ask that Mike: I have been using my right leg but I noticed that Eric used his left leg while he is right handed  :headscratch: Turns out he has another damaged body part and he struggles to bend his right knee

What size are those bolts on your bench

Those are M16 bolts on Eric's bench. We picked them up last Sunday at the Autojumble for 50p each. I think they are for his various over head cranes  :noidea:

Back on the casting table: I have got a home made lifting table which was originally made to enable me to lift 5" Locos in and out of a car on my own. But it is not as heavy duty as this one which should be able to lift my 2" ploughing engine onto the central constructing bench. However I still have to work on how to achieve that last 14" down to the floor: Eric has been trying to convince me that I too should consider a crop of overhead cranes which might provide the last little bit, or maybe just use the engine crane

Jo

When I was far more likely to have built the Superba ploughing engine I too was looking into ways to move it up and down and had decided that I would get a high lift pallet. With a simple table these go upto about a meter high but more importantly down to around 100mm which would be easy enough to bump the engine up onto by hand or with a small ramp. Also with the handle being at the opposite end of the X legs to yours easy to get well into the back of the car without the bumper/tailgate getting in the way.

Would also be handy to move machines about should the need arise.
