Pressure as a unit of time
« on: April 25, 2018, 01:26:13 PM »
Take one beat up old pressure gauge

One cheap electric clock movement

Cut the guts out of the gauge.

Marry the two together and hey presto you have a pressure gauge clock

Interesting idea Stew. SO how large is the face....guessing around 4" based on the typical size of those clock movements.

Great little project Stew

It's a perfect excuse for getting out of doing something - "Sorry sweetheart, I can't I'm under a bit of time pressure at the moment".    ;)

Sounds like the units I might have come up with in an answer in one if my freshman engineering problems so long ago  :lolb:

I can assure you Craig, freshman engineering students haven't changed. If anything, worse than back in our days. Then there was a student a few years back who was trying to expound on metrology, but mis- spoke and called it metal urology instead. Hurts to think about it even now. :lolb:

I don't like the idea of destroying beautiful old gauges to  make flea market trinkets!!

If you want a clock that looks like a gauge, then make the housing to look like a gauge.

Once you destroy that piece of history, it's gone forever..

I can appreciate your sentiments gents but I’d tested the gauge and it was well out of reading true and fit only for the scrap box or as a novelty fixture of some upmarket pub. Just think about how many beautiful old buildings have been saved from the wrecking ball by stripping out their guts and converting them to another use.
