Hey all.

I am a network engineer from Northwest Arkansas.  I find interest in nearly everything, but have been wanting to work with metal since I was very young.

Several years ago I acquired a South Bend 9 with no tool post holder and no tooling from about the 1930s.  A couple of years later, I acquired a 1946 Burke milling machine, and I've been building up my tooling along the way.

Most of my "knowledge" on machining has come from youtube, and a little bit from some people I've met along the way.  However, time is a valuable resource, so that can be a challenging thing to make work well.

If you couldn't tell from my username, I am also a huge fan of classic Volkswagens.  If it's 1970 or newer, it is TOO NEW!

I found this forum while searching for Corliss designs, and I was immediately impressed by the community.  I'm really looking forward to sharing my projects and learning from folks here.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting the introduction. The process of building up one's shop is a constant one, but you seem to be off to a good start. Would love to see pictures of the shop too as time permits. Looking forward to your #6CI build as introduces on the build thread.

Welcome to MEM!

I also played with air cooled VWs for many years, now I would rather be working on ME projects than cars. I still do some case and head boring for the local VW community.
