Here is a little story I wrote about making an hour glass.

That looks more like a 3 minute glass.  I thought you were going to scale it up to an hour and make the glass part.

Hmm, or start with a pair of these, and join them with a suitable machined fitting.  Said fitting could also have a conical needle valve, to adjust flow for calibrating the time?
