FREE PLANS!
« on: March 31, 2018, 02:17:16 PM »
For those interested in building i.c. engines - 'The Motorboys' book of engine plans is now available to download for free. It's in the books section of the Outerzone aircraft plans website.

Go to https://rclibrary.co.uk/title_details.asp?ID=2122

I have checked that this is a legitimate offer, and got the OK, so fill yer boots!
How on earth did I find time to go to work?

That's a bigger file than the "usual" pdf file for the plan book  ::)

Thanks for that info 'BB' - nice to know it's now freely available.

I do have the 'book' (disc) as bought from Ron but only recently tried to copy a drawing from it for Tennessee Whiskey. Not possible so sent him a hard copy in the end.

There you go Eric now you have access to 'em all   ;D

Thank you for posting that gem. I archived the contents of the website using Wget but was looking all over for the book.

Thanks. Downloaded the book, looks good.

I've been looking for a diesel aircraft engine for a future build. The MATE looks like it could the the one.

Thanks again.

Jo, is there an original file? I asked if originals were avaialble when he proposed to do this and was told that originals didn't exist. I was also told it couldn't possibly be any smaller file.

Yes Ron's original file exists on the MBI CD the file is 8.5MBytes which makes it a size that can be Emailed.

While the MBI Plan book has 13 drawing sets in it I have 34 MBI plans. I don't think all were on the CD  :-X

Perhaps the DVD/CD will make its way into public view as well.

For those who would like a local archive of the entire http://www.modelenginenews.org/ website:

Download a copy of WGet: http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/wget.htm, get the Setup package to make your life simpler.
The command line that I use is:
Code: [Select]
"C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuWin32\bin\wget" -U firefox -mkEpnp http://www.modelenginenews.org/ in a Command window in the directory where I want the site contents to be saved.

This gets you a local copy of the entire web site. Find the index.html file, open that in a browser (just double click) and voila.

Though you promised to keep them out of the public domain .... could you ask if it is OK to make them available to us ...?

Best wishes

Sorry Per, if you look up the models the Engine boys made then there is a possibility I have the drawings  ;) More than that I would have to ask permission before I passed them on to others as I do not know which are covered by Ron's original Copyright clause of making them freely available  :disappointed:

 Has anyone checked that the new one is the Issue 2 of the book with the corrections?

Here is part of the comment posted on the site by a motorboys member.......

There were two editions and there were a number of additions and corrections that appeared over time. I have scanned my [first edition] book and added the additions and corrections which turn it in effect to being like the second edition, only better. I have compiled all the pages into a single indexed pdf file."

Can't be a better version as poor old Eric does not get a mention as a Motor Boy as he does in the second edition :LittleDevil:

The real pity is that the castings for all these engines are all but impossible to come buy, with only two of those engines from bar stock and two others relatively easy to do from barstock I can't see many of the others being made as there are only a few of us who will carve the "cast" crankcases from solid so apart from something to look through there is not a lot of use in having the plans book filling your harddisc

Well I love to see and study plans as it usually makes wiser - thought not always for long with my memory  :embarassed:

I do have the original version 1 DVD and I have downloaded the revision 2 recently after Ken released it - but I'm still curious about the rest  ;)
