New member living in Germany
« on: March 29, 2018, 05:24:59 AM »
Hello all,

Thanks for letting me join this forum.  I am George, I live and work in Germany as a helicopter mechanic for the US Army, but I will be retiring from that soon.

I will post more, but just wanted to say HI.

 :hi: George,

What type of model engines are you interesting in building?

Thanks for the welcomes.

I am interested in making some of Elmer's steam engines, (for now until I get better machining skills).

I have in the shop a 10 ton press, bandsaw, small lathe and a Optimum Vario milling machine. Once I get home, I will try to post a photo of my beginning projects and of my shop.

oppss.......

forgot to add, I like to make my own tooling, and I can try and post pics of the ones I have made so far.

I am looking for plans for a set of low profile bed clamps and read the post here about them but can' find the plans or drawings.

Hi all,

I am back have been busy making some tooling so I can progress as a hobby machinist.

Trying to attach photos of what I have been making.

And a photo of the engine that I have been working on, and just trying out some machining stuff that is new to me.

Welcome to the forum George, looks like an Elmers No 44 to me that you are making good progress with.

Fellas,

Thank you for the comments.

The engine is from a set of plans that I have a copy of, and is a Elmer's "Open Column Twin" ( the upper left of the page says Chapter 44).

I have some other issues with the engine as I have broken off a tap flush with the deck, see where the Phillips head screw is ...... broke off flush, but I tried with 1/8" end mills with a slow feed and a lot of cutting fluid, and I think that I have it to a depth where I can re-tap the hole next size larger, then I will continue with the project.

George
