Spring loaded center ......
« on: March 01, 2018, 07:25:04 PM »
Probably not the first to make a spring loaded center from a end mill holder, but here is my version.

Since I almost never use end mill holders it was a easy sacrifice to use one of my R-8 holders for the center body.
This would work with just about any holder depending on your mill.
I used a dowel pin for the center and turned a point on the end at the lathe and a short pilot for the spring. Added a flat for the holder set screw
to ride against and keep the center in the holder. Some Loctite thread locker on the set screw keeps everything together. For my use I choose a fairly
stout spring since I use this for larger taps. Also, flatten the tip of the set screw so it engages the flat better.
