One hand operated depth gauge
« on: February 13, 2018, 06:43:56 AM »
I came across the design for this depth gauge in a 1920 ish American Machinist magazine, it can be use with one hand.

to use simple press the rod to depth

then with your caliper zeroed on the bar, simply take the direct measurement of the rod

I can't read any dimensions (let alone tolerances) on the dwgs.   So just how "snug" a fit is the measuring rod to the hole on the other rod, and the bigger rod in the body ??  May have to build one for kicks. :-)  Don't have a need at the moment but you can never tell when it may arise. :-)

Thanks for your interest Chaps

Lew its just a slide fit the load from the spring puts drag on it and keeps it in place.

I've attached the drawings so it will make better sense.

Cheers

Thanks for the drawing Stew.
When I saw your photos of this handy little device I thought that was just what I needed so I drew myself a CoC sketch from your description.  Now I have a real drawing with dimensions and everything, what luxury  ;D
This will be on the top of my to do list.

Thanks Stew, I'll see about doing one soon. Maybe I can get one of the students that is looking for a proj. to do it for me. :-)

Nope:- she has very dry skin and uses prescription soap that uses those dispensers she get through about two a month so I’m well stocked.
