Port size in air powered engine
« on: February 11, 2018, 06:27:55 PM »
Over the years I have seen some discussions about the diameter of a air intake port for the bore and stroke of an engine. I am sketching out some ideas on a 4 stroke air powered radial engine. My question is not for a size for the intake or power stroke. I am curious about the exhaust side. In my example the exhaust port would be used for exhaust, intake and compression allowing the piston to go up, down and back up while just free wheeling so to speak. I am curious what size port you guys think would handle a .625 bore and stroke piston with out putting any drag on the piston with compression or vacuum. Trying to do this in a 4 stroke manner does make it challenging. I have seen the various 4 stoke air engines of Chuck Fellows with the ball and spring in the head but I am attempting something different. Thanks.
