Health Update
« on: February 09, 2018, 09:19:54 PM »
Just wanted to let everyone know I'm doing well.  I had a PET scan this past Monday and it came back clear.  I still have maintenance chemotherapy every 3 weeks and that has it's challenges.  It gives me flu symptoms for about a 5 days after each treatment and is causing neuropathy in my feet and slightly in my fingers.  My taste buds are completely screwed.  About the only thing that tastes fairly normal are sweets.  I can tolerate chicken thighs and hot dogs, but all other meats are pretty much off the menu.  My concession to vegetables includes a daily 12oz can of V8 juice and the occasional salad.  Other than that, its mostly oatmeal, yogurt, protein shakes, and puddings, all with full sugar.  That's about the only way I can keep my weight up.  And, my oncologist insists there is no scientific study linking sugar to increased or accelerated cancer risk.  The other thing is that I am completely hairless, from head to toe.  I guess the good news there is that I never have a bad hair day, I don't have to shave, no ear hair to trim, no "man-scaping", and no nose hair or eyebrows to trim.

But, it's been 3 years since I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and the fact that I'm still alive and leading a relatively normal (most of the time) seems like a miracle.  And I do get to consume as many sugar laden goodies as my heart desires.  Life is good!

That's really good news, Chuck! I'm very happy to hear that this thing seems to be on the run and heading over the horizon. One of the four projects I'm working on is my version of your 'mist-less mist cooling'. Soda bottle and all. I'll post it in a couple of weeks...

Hang in there!

Great news! Our Governor Hogan has had successful treatment for two kinds of cancer. The scorecard:

Hogan 2
Cancer 0

I had a cancerous colon polyp removed the day after the 9/11 attacks, and have been clear since then.

One day at a time - and many more to come :)

keep up the fight Chuck
I'm just over fours since diagnosis. last scan was clear and blood tests since have Psa even or falling. Drugs have their side effects but they are keeping us alive my friend, always an upside.

one foot after the other and repeat, and if ya feel like doing something? doesn't hurt anybody else? well then what's stopping you?

Cheers

Not sure I fancy the diet but it takes what it takes - you just make the most of it and enjoy yourself within your limits.

I'll look forward to some 'Chuck posts' in due course ;)

Glad to hear you are doing so well Chuck!

In the aftermath of my recovery from the big surgery I first had Hypoguesia, the inability to taste foods normally. Everything, and I mean that literally tasted foul, rancid, or metallic, like old wrenches or just plain earth...lousy. So I didn't eat except for soup broth. That changed to Hyperguesia in a couple of weeks, where everything intensifies in taste, which is now permanent. So I experience taste intensely. Drives my wife crazy cooking for me cause I taste and smell things much more sensitively than normal. Think I'll move to France. I'm told this resulted from the powerful anesthetics and mini-strokes.
Keep getting better!
Mosey

Thanks, everyone, for the kind and thoughtful well-wishes.  I had been thinking about uploading a new photo for my Avatar so here it is.  My previous picture was taken about 8 years ago, so you can see what age and 3 years of chemotherapy have done to my appearance.  I'm still a little startled when I look in the mirror.  Not quite used to that visage staring back at me!
