10mm square machine vice handle.
« on: February 09, 2018, 08:46:07 PM »
Does anyone in the UK know when I can obtain a replacement 10mm square machine vice handle?

My old machine vice handle seems to have disappeared, probably in the last bag of swarf. I have asked the shop elves if they have seen it, but they are saying nothing.

Regards

Mike

Naughty elves Mike!! Not content with small screws and parts, they want whole vise handles.  :o

Follow the cutting sounds to where THEIR shop is? The little buggers usually make their own tools, not supposed to steal ours!

Amazon has this type:
https://www.amazon.com/Monroe-30084-Aluminum-Handle-Revolving/dp/B00FONSA50/ref=sr_1_2?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1518224699&sr=1-2&keywords=10mm%2Bhole%2Bcrank&th=1

Little Machine Shop has a variety of handles, worth a look there.

Looking at the cost of spare handles on Rotagrips site it may be cheaper to buy a new vice :o

You could always get a 10mm sump-plug socket (Ford, BMW, Renault) like this one and get a decent quality 3/8" drive handle (possibly with a 4" extension to avoid conflict with the bed) to get with it.

Thank you J and C and A

Wow!! Rotorip are a bit too pricey.

I may be sorted. Found a 10mm tool post spanner for £7 delivered and also a vintage brake drum adjuster for £10.

I will also get one of Allen's sump plug sockets as a stand-by.

Hope it gave my shop elves indigestion

Well at least you can sleep easy in the knowledge that as soon as all those have turned up you will find where you put the handle down last >:(

Someone wanting a forged handle with an imperial size square hole might find this firm useful  :).

Would you believe it, my my missing machine vise handle has miraculously reappeared.

It has been hiding in a pile of round stock on the opposite side of the shop since early February.  The shop elves were remarkably quite about it's whereabouts, but we are now joyously reunited once again.

Is it an age thing, but I must spend a substantial amount of time searching for the tool I put down 10 secs ago I can’t remember doing this years ago?

Hopeless

The vice handle was left out for you to find, that means they took something else in its place....
