My finished Senft Poppin
« on: March 25, 2018, 06:30:36 PM »
As of today I am calling my Poppin complete. I started it on Jan 21st, and it first ran on March 11. Of course I have been following Brian's version! Last weekend I tore it all down to do the final finish work, polishing and bead blasting, etc.

When it was all back together do you think it ran? Hahaha, NO! And when it was first assembled, it took right off, immediately on the first spin. After some fiddling it ran well again. I made the burner yesterday. I added some rubber feet to keep it from moving around.

Another one done! It was a fun project.

If the top on that burner forms a seal, you may want to put a vent hole in it.  DAMHIKT.

As the burner heats, alcohol inside evaporates and starts to build pressure.  Without a vent, the pressure can force liquid alcohol up the wick tube and out onto the table where, of course, it is ignited by the flame.

Extended running at a show without a vent allowed me to ignite the paper cover on the exhibition table.  Worse, since an alcohol flame is virtually invisible, it wasn't until my hand started burning that I noticed.  It is not one of my fondest memories.
