Probably best to get Kozo's book as the one in there can and has been built in 5"g. Camden do the book.

Kozo's original Building the Shay is an early B class but in 3 1/2", the final chapter discusses what is needed to scale up and provides drawings for a copper boiler for a 5" locomotive. The second book is a later B class... sorry I do not have a copy of that book so I cannot confirm if it details the larger sizes

About 20 years ago there was a 5" Shay at the Reading club. I don't know if it is still running there. I assume you are aware of just how slow it is going to be once built  ::)

If anyone want to see some good machine work have a look through these photos of a smaller version of Kozo's shay.

Thanks for the replies guys and all the information  on the shay I like the photos I have managed to track down  a book in Scotland.
I know the speed is slow and looks to be a satisfying moment and I will also track down the Redding club as I live within 5 miles of Reading.
I have plenty of time to build as I am 63 years old and disabled so I recon I have  a good 30 years  :old:

Again thanks for your help  Kevin
