Very sad morning....
« on: January 11, 2018, 09:42:21 PM »
This morning we had to put down our dog Moe. At 13 he wasn't particularly old but blindness due to cataracts, diabetes and his back legs failing was just too much for the old guy. He and I were very close and I'm gonna miss him a lot.  :'(

He looks a bit crumpy in the picture - but all dogs are like children an you miss the badly when they disappear from your life ....

I only know two cures - either a new dog or time (takes a lot longer).

Best wishes

Sorry for your loss Pete. After our second dog died, old age, I just couldn't go through it a third time.

Hi Pete,
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Its hard when you have to make that decision and, like gbritnell, we've had to do it twice on the last few years. I'm not sure I could go through it again, dogs are up to the next generation now.

Heart goes out to you Pete. I can’t say that there is a bit of difference than losing any member of the family.

Pete--when my old pit bull started having really bad trouble with her back, I had to take her to the vet to be put down. I cried all the way to the vets, and held her while he gave her the needle. Tears rolled down my face the whole damned time we set there. I feel your pain.---Brian

So sorry to hear of you having to say a final goodbye to a dear friend. Such a hard thing to do but I'm sure knew in your heart it was the kindest thing you could have done for him. Reading you post made me think of all the friends over the years we've helped cross the bridge...and the sadness at the time.  Paul

Very sorry for your loss Pete.
We lost ours at 17 years. It's a very hard thing.
It's been some 10 years (I think) and we haven't been able to bring ourselves to even think of another dog yet.

Do not question yourself about your decision. It was right.

Hi Pete,
Been there done that too, our guy was 16. Still haven’t got another, part due to we had a good un, & part due to being away a lot.
We had him cremated, sits in the study so still can go & have a chat...he still says about the same amount....just haven’t got round to doing anything with his ashes, sad I know!

Cheers Kerrin

My sincere sympathies Pete - it's a hard one we know. There's not much one can say at a time like this but I feel for you.

Pete,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Moe. I think making the decision and having a pet put down is one of the hardest things there is to do. A lot of us have been in your shoes and know just how you feel right now.

Sorry for your loss Pete
Ours was 15 and then we looked after a friend's old dog whilst they were overseas for 2 years. Both caused such heartache that we haven't had another for some years.
SWMBO is talking about getting one but I am not so keen.

Kind regards

Pete we know what you are going thru.
A couple of years ago we had to put our old dog to sleep.
Very sad day we never forget.
Remember the nice times you had with your friend.

I want to thank all of you for your very kind thoughts and for sharing your own experiences. Moe was my buddy and followed me everywhere. If I was making noise in the shop he would wait for me on the back steps to greet me when I came in. If he deemed the noise level to be acceptable, he would lay on the mat just inside the shop door. Always happy to be with people.

My brother described his personality:

"He was such a wonderful spirit. Always just happy to be himself, never asking much but always providing others joy. He made you feel good just to have him close by."

Thank you all so much,

Pete
