Very quickly indeed!!!  On the flywheels, what material is the Martin casting ?

Bill

Its Cast Iron.  The link to his website is............ http://martinmodel.com/MMPflywheels.html

I've had some time off work over the holidays, (I think I started this engine right after Thanksgiving) so I've been working on it a lot.  I have some more pieces  done, but it takes a long time to resize the pictures.
There must be an easier way.  My IPhone makes the pictures too big, I can't find a setting to take a smaller size picture.
What do all you guys do for smaller pictures?

This is what I worked on this morning and afternoon.  I had a long day in the shop.
But happy to say it was very productive.
The eccentric strap, I had to saw cut twice.  The first one I didn't make it wide enough to bolt it to my fixture. I cut the first piece without the extra wide ears, and I didn't know how I would clamp it to my vise.
Hate it when that happens.  The 4th picture shows the ears getting cut of last.

Thanks!  I just spent almost over 30 min. looking at your 2 cylinder project.  Very impressive
Do you have more info on your crankshaft? I like the large bearings with very little friction.

You are doing a good job on this engine

Regarding the flywheel, I make a lot of engines without castings though I do make them look "cast" rather than barstock made and in most cases it is as cheap and easier to use a cast flywheel if something suitable is available. The only time I make the flywheels is if they have specific features that I can't get from using an off the self casting.

I am another enjoying following your build.

Regarding the picture size, I find if I mail them to myself, I am given the option of small medium or large.  Medium is within the limit and seems to have acceptable quality for most purposes.  They turn up in either all mail, or sent mail mail boxes, and I can then save the images.  Final step is to choose the file from photo library for attachment.

The more I learn, the more I find that I still have to learn!

I got the four brackets for the guide bar done.  I made one long bar and then cut into four pieces.  They turned out good. One of them I learned the hard way to not clamp too hard.  The brass will deform(The 6th picture if you look close you can see the vise marks.  good thing its not a critical part.)

And the guide bar is mounted!
My days are going to be limited pretty soon, I would like to get all the linkage completed.

OK, I ended up buying a cast Flywheel.  It came the other day.
This flywheel is huge.  It is the 8" heavy, and there's no doubt....it's heavy, diameter is over 8.5".
I think I might order the 8" regular or maybe a 7"

I found 4 of these old cast wheels on the farm a long time ago and saved them.  I wonder how it would look if I put one on the other side?  My thought was it could be a pulley for a flat belt.
What do you guys think?? Everyone's been pretty quiet. :help: :help:
