Getting "rountuit"
« on: December 29, 2017, 05:25:05 PM »
Many-many moons ago, I did this to my lathe: http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,5273.msg100908.html#msg100908

Some parts where never done (as often happens, sometimes one never gets round to doing them)

This must all change so yesterday and today was spent finally doing something about the machined surface here:

Yes, finally a spindle bullwheel indexer

It also doubles as a hold down point for the GHT dividing h20171229_171200 by Bjorn Bursell, on Flickread with a bracket I did

Both are nice additions Bjorn. You should be pleased with those.

Thanks, the dividing thingy has been very useful, especially since getting the toolpost mill/drill machine done. I now see a lot of cases where it would have been enough to use the index plunger..

How many divisions are there on the bull gear?

I dont want to Hi-Jack your thread, but in answer to Bill's question the Super 7 has 60 teeth on the bull wheel making it very useful for direct indexing.

I had always wanted a filing rest for mine and recently obtained the Rolls Royce of filing rests.

In order to make use of this I needed to be able to index and hold the spindle in a fixed position, so after a bit of work with CAD (Cardboard Aided Design)

I came up with this design which lives permanently on the lathe and still allows the belt guard to close properly.

Disengaged.

Engaged.

funny you bring the subject of filing rests up Phil as I have a half-built Westbury filing rest on the bench.. My lathe now has 60teeth on the bull wheel (as all small-bore supers and the late big-bores). Mine had a rather useless 67t before (mentioned in the thread i linked to in the first post).

Thanks for the answer. 60 teeth is sure a lot more useful than 67!!
