One size smaller hex head bolts
« on: December 22, 2017, 08:58:32 PM »
I am looking for metric one size smaller hex head bolts.  All I can seem to find are in BA sizes but no metric sizes.

Anybody have any information of where I can get the metric sizes?  I would like to avoid doing them myself if at all possible.

Vince,

Have a look on this French site: https://micro-modele.fr/en/13-micro-screws

Not cheap though!

Vince....these people knupfer are CNC manufacturers and have metric steel & brass hex head bolts & nuts & they nominate DIN Standards , you will need to look at translations to find the reduced head types

They market & sell in quantities of 10 or 25 per packet which is helpful............they are responsive to international orders

Their published prices include 19% domestic German Tax, they deduct the same 19% for international orders.... I have found them great to deal & order from

+1 for Knupfer.

I have bought quite a few nuts and bolts from them in the smaller metric sizes, they are good to deal with and the quality is good as well.
Also in the UK, Polly Models do a limited range of sizes.

https://www.microscrews-shop.nl is my favourite source, satisfied customer of bolts, nuts, washers, drills, shcs. Similar to knupfer in selection and pricing.

Yep Knupher or GHW in Germany and you can also get the GHW ones from Bruce Engineering in the UK.

As the step between M4 and M3 is quite large the heads can almost look a bit small but certainly a lot better than standard ISO sizes. As a comparrison this shows M4 and M3 of both types.

Don't know what sizes you are looking for but I've just completed a couple of part made hit and miss engines that the previous owner had tapped for metric fixings, I've made all new and went for 3/16" hex on M3, 1/4" hex on M4, 5/16" hex on M5 and 3/8" hex on M6 eg 1/16" of hex per mil of thread dia and they look well proportined. Used the same system on the square headed fixings too
