Spindle choice
« on: December 10, 2017, 07:25:30 AM »
Hello ,

New here and would like to know your experience and ideas.
I have plans to buy a mill , probably a wabeco F1210E.
There is no need to start with cnc now but I am wondering which spindle would be best.
ISO30 or MT2 ?

Do they offer R8 as an option?

There is no question on the spindle you should have the ISO 30. It is the standard CNC spindle size so second hand tooling is easy to come by.

A word of warning: All of the Wabeco machines electrics "could be better"  ::)

Unless you choose the high speed version which has already ac Motor and vfd drive when you buy it! But the price is a lot higher.

I would also go for the Iso30. What you have to be aware of is that the spindle is longer when you choose iso30 and therefore the tool will be further away from the spindle bearings. But the rigidity with iso30 tooling will be at least as good as if you use mt2 tooling because you don't have that "weak spot" between spindle and tool head.

I am going for the High speed mill with 2.0 kw engine.
ISO 30 tool looks a bit more rigid and probably easier to work with.
It's a little investment but I have trust in the company's service and quality.

Next step will be a DRO.

+1 for ISO 30

Otherwise you will have to reset the tool height every time you mount it.   A massive pain in the a** with a CNC and no where near as accurate.
