« on: December 07, 2017, 03:54:16 AM »
Hello and good morning.

Here are the the first pictures of our IHC Famous in 1/3 scale.
It's build of the OnderStoom Plans from the Nederlands.

My Father beguns to build the steel parts and I begun to build the cart from ash-tree.

Hello,

Bill, yes, we build tree of it.
One for my Father, one for me and the last one, if the others don't run well.  ;)

Today my Father had finished the crankshafts and I made some woodworkings again.

Question, how should I treat the wood so that it becomes oil and gas resistant?
Should I also dye it a little darker?

The last pictures shows the original drawing of the Cart and my drawing in Inventor.

Regards Toby

And here is the pipe I want to use for the Cart Wheels.
It's 114x10 mm.

I tend to use an oil finish such as "danish oil" or more recently one of the oils which also contain wax such as Osmo Poly-x. This would be a similar German product, they also do the Danish oil. Both easy to apply but make sure you wipe off any excess oil after about 15mins as any left sitting on the surface will not dry and you will have a sticky surface.

Or any other of this? Painting is magical for me  :(

Today I make the fist "rear axle support", is it the name of it  ::) .

I used my CNC Mill and mill it of 3mm brass.

Very nice work on the axle support Toby. The brass will look very nice too. As for wood finish, I usually use a solvent based wood stain such as Minwax over here in the USA. This is a water thin stain you can either brush on or apply with a cloth and is available in many shades depending on the base wood you are staining. That is followed by 2-3 coats of a polyurethane gloss finish from a spray can. This has held up well for me against oil and fuel.

Hello,

yesterday I paint the Ash with Osmo Hardwax Oil "Bernstein".  :)
I like the result.

I also thinking about the switch for the ignition.
Do you think it's ok so? Or is it too big?

Regards Toby

Handle looks too small on the switch and maybe a bit of a fancy design, have you based it on a real one?

This is the Gade one I copied

Toby, I did not enlarge all your thumbnails, in the last one it looks like you had a small turned wooden handle on the switch, I can see now it is just the way the light hits the twisted brass :-[

PS wood colour looks about right.

Hello,

thank you for reply.

Does anyone know the colour of the IHC's?

I want to use RAL colours red and black.
Red engine
black tank and flywheels.

Here is our PowderCoating dealer.
He had RAL 3000, RAL 3001, RAL3003

You will have to look up the RAL equivalent to Dupont but this gives the colour matches for a lot of engines

Hello all.

First I want to wish you nice Christmas Days.

My father makes some more steel work.

Yesterday I paint the rest of the wooden parts.

Then I begun to make the switch.
I take "Pertinax" of 4mm thickness and 3mm Brass.

Now it's time to think about how to make the slots
and thinking about a comression spring or something else to fix the lever and make good electrical contact.
See pictures.

I cut the slots with a slitting saw, bit easier if you do it white the part is still attached to the main rod.

If you slightly bend the lever so it is out of line with the slots then the "spring" in the lever will be enough to hold it in the slots.

Hello,

Jason, thanks for the tip.
I will see what my father can do.
He has a slitting saw.
The lever is only slightly bent, I did not know. Thank you.

Today I found a little time and finished the first hinges for the box.
It still lacks the right steel rivets.

Hello.

Thuesday I visit my father. We'll do some work at the Hand Truck Parts.

My fahter had begun to myke the wheels, and
I've begun to make some parts of the front axle holder.

At Christmas the Engine stands the first time at the Hand Truck.

Hi Toby

You and your dad continue to make very nice parts, everything is coming together nicely!
I'm wondering about the photos of the original battery box, do you have any idea what type of engine that it was from?

I'm at the point that I need to make a battery box for my project and was thinking about maybe doing something similar to what you have done here. I really like the hinge design.
My battery box would have been from the 1890's and I'm not exactly sure what construction and hardware they would have used back then.

The "knife" hinges can also be seen in several of the illustrations in these old catalogues.

Hello and good morning.

Yesterday my father and I do some work on the axle holder.
We also finished the knife switch.

The Wanderer, scale 1/6, is another projekt of my father, and the Allchin, scale 1/12 I think, is for selling.
My father also selling a new, untouched castign kit of the Allchin.

Some very neat soldering on those brackets. I also like your Fathers Fowler, you don't see that many made as the road loco, most are the single cylinder agricultural versions.

Hello,

the axle / handle bar holder are ready now.
Also the axle washers.

Now we wait for the laser cut wheel inlets to finish the wheels.

Jason, my father always likes something special about his models.  :)

Hello,
here is a little update.

My dad has finished the piston rod, cylinder and bushing.
The piston is from a Honda Dax 50ccm.

I got the lasered wheel inserts and began milling the grooves for the spokes.

Hello,

a little update of our IHC.

My father soldered and rounded off the tank and crankcase.
And has built the water pumps holder.

Next, some levers were built. For that I could do the blanks on my CNC milling machine.
My father then finished the rest of the levers.

Some parts of the tank fittings are already finished.

Hello,

yes, I am still alive  ;)

In the last weeks my father worked a lot on the IHC.
He built many levers, the camshaft, the waterpump, the flywheels, the magneto and many small other parts.

At this time, I build one completly other thing. A crooked garden sheed, or witch house.

Hello Roger.
Thanks for your comment.
Right, the house is also available as a kit or ready to buy.
It was clearly too expensive to buy.
Then, after photos from the internet, I drew it myself and then built it.

If you are interested, there are some information and many pictures on my homepage.
