IEC Free Socket

Does anyone know where I can get a free socket like the one linked above BUT with the cable exiting to the right, not to the left ???

They ALL seem to be like that, dunno why    :headscratch:

Dave

PS No, I can't turn the plug upside down ...  :D

Good luck in your quest

I think that they are reversible.

I think that they are reversible.

Alas, no ...  :'(

I have seen 45o items where they could be 'handed', used them on service power strips. This enabled the cable to exit at sort of '4 o'clock / eight o'clock' -ish. Think they were Belling make but not sure.

Stuart: Yup seen those but I would like the horizontal sort

Bit weird innit ???     Why ???

I shall sulk ...  :noidea:

Can't find a free connector to spec, probably need to look at Chinese manufacturers. If a box manufacturer wants the cable to exit t'other way they just install the IEC socket the other way up. That allows the connector manufacturer to cut down on variants. However, I did find an IEC pre-wired, but unterminated, cable from RS:

Thank you, Andrew.

Not sure about RS. Don't they have some dreadful shipping cost for non-trade. Long time since I had anything from there ...

Wanted a min. of 3.5m cable length, so, inspired by yourself to look for pre-made leads ...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Power-Cord-UK-Plug-to-Right-Angle-IEC-C13-Cable-kettle-lead-5m-Left-handed/252513951873?epid=1282039634&hash=item3acb012081:g:OOMAAOSwIgNXwDP7

We are in business I think  :zap:  :whoohoo:

Dave

EDIT Looks like they deliver for free .. remembered my login and put one of those cables in the basket and they added VAT but free shipping ??
Can this be true??
If it is they've changed  last time I got anything from them the odd non-trade account geezer in his shed was comprehensively stung for postage under £100 IIRC ...  something like that anyway..

Way back in the good old (actually the 70s were awful) days the main professional distributors were Farnell and RS. No manufacturer would deal with tiddly trade customers, and there were a bunch of "specialist" distributors for passives, discretes and ICs. There was no way you'd get an account with Farnell or RS without filling in the form, supplying trade references, and being vetted by the 'team'.

Now it's all changed. Most IC manufacturers have online ordering for samples and low volume manufacturing. Some very good and some sadly written by the office boy. Many of the specialised distributors have gone to the wall, or now specialise in things like, for example, high power connectors and high voltage capacitors. In order to keep customers Farnell and RS have had to change. First they started to offer non-trade accounts, payment via debit/credit cards. Not sure about RS but Farnell charge for delivery if a non-account order is under £20. Then they pushed for online orders rather than via the dog 'n' bone. I think it is much easier to get a trade account now - it can be done online. As it happens I've got trade accounts with both RS and Farnell. The later from decades back as I was friendly with the rep.

The buying game is worldwide now. I often use Digikey and Mouser in the US. They've got free delivery over £50, I think, and delivery is pretty quick. Order on Friday morning (UK time) and you may well get it on Monday.

Can't you reverse the panel plug? Most of them are symmetric.   :Jester:

Interesting ....

Last time I used RS was probably some 8-10 years ago, 4 Lorlin panel mounted BCD rotary switches. I seem to remember the P&P was about the same as the bits.    Only place I could seem to find them. PCB switches by the sackful, yes. Panel mounted, no chance.

Just use CPC & Farnell now, don't get much, already got stuff.

Ah well. Nice to know anyway ..  Cheers for the help

Dave

Nope. See post #1   ;)

Even I thought of that ...

Technically speaking, I probably could but I would have to break the seals and invalidate the warranty. And it ain't my £6.5k bit of new kit ...
