My 1st Model - A Horizontal Mill Engine
« on: October 01, 2012, 05:26:30 AM »
This is the 1st model I built.

It was hacked out of sprues and give away lumps of cast iron from a local foundry.

Bob

This is a fitting job,
not a production job that can be measured in.

John, Marcello & Bill,

Thanks Guys.  :NotWorthy: :NotWorthy: :NotWorthy:

So far I have only run it on air. When I get my boiler boiling, I will use the pump as a feed pump.

Wow! Just wow!

First model?  That's incredible.

I know I should be inspired but all I want to do right now is sell my tools.

Marv,

Thanks for the kind words.  :NotWorthy:

Just to get things in perspective. I  was professionally trained as a fitter and turner. I was also lucky that the Navy decided to do away with boilermakers, so I was also given a crash course in boilermaking and welding.

When I started this I had some 40 odd years of machining under my belt and some 26 years around steam engines and turbines.

IMHO when compared to others, (especially those who are self taught), it rates as OK.

If I had been a member of a forum at the time, the build log would have shown just how many parts were made more than once as I tried to get my head around the smaller sizes. Not to mention how many small drills and taps I broke.

Best Regards
Bob

Perhaps Bob. But it's a small scale model with its own new learnings. Very nice.

Bob still all in all, you have done a great job on it. That is an awesome engine for your first model.
