The cheap ones are rubbish in terms of repeatability, durability and battery life. Even the low end Fowlers aren't that good. I would spend the money on a good set of mitutoyo digital calipers and be done with it.Tony
It is a risky road to go down but I tend to wait for a compelling discount at MSC and take the plunge. No arguments on whether it is genuine then. The risk is of course that you buy more stuff.Martin.
I noticed that the MSC one looks identical to the ones I can buy locally from the local hardware store chain (Canadian Tire for the canucks reading). SNIPOne last edit - they are at least good enough that you can pay a bit extra and have them calibrated - I didn't go that far but at least its comforting that there is confidence that they are hopefully built well enough to calibrate...Mike[/quoteI agree: this MSC/SPI one is available with a calibration Certificate, but at £23.83 a pop I can do without it!John
