Those pins definitely look like 110v to me. There should be another cord coming from the foot switch with a male connector that plugs into the wall and then those brass pins will plug into that female connection in your hand.

What on Earth have you got there, Jo ???

I'm pretty sure plugs with vertical pins are for 110VAC.

That's what I would have thought but Foredom in their catalogue show that type of connector on the motor unit cable  :noidea:

This is the contents of that little box.

and the foot switch should have one of these switchy things in it. I haven't put a meter across either to find out what they actually are..

Schematics for the Foredom  footpedals (120 and 220 volt models) are here
https://www.foredom.net/documentdownloads.aspx

Listed under
Trigger Switch Replacement Instructions for Speed Controls-

Can’t imagine the Chinese models are too different

Thanks Stan,

I've ordered a (female) NEMA5 socket to go from the pedal to the motor. I will be putting a UK fused 3 pin plug on the main cable into the pedal

That is a standard North America 110v plug and socket. 15Amp rating. Live, neutral and ground (earth) aka NEMA5-15R

I’ve got my pedal running through the speed control so even if I mash down, I’ve got speed limited. Foredom has the connection setup for that on their website. Very useful.

After Jo's reports on those handpieces, I decided to gamble the $17 on one of the quick-change ones for my Foredom machine, figure at worst fleabay would make good on the transaction. It arrived today, and just as Jo mentioned the hole for the flex shaft is .004" too small for the standard Foredom shaft end, that should be easy to open up. The collet end works fine, seems to run true and smooth.

One interesting thing is that the tool is not 'labeled' as a Foredom, but instead is marked as an Italian company, instructions are in several languages. So, it is likely a Chinese knockoff of an Italian knockoff!

After I get the opening in the base end tweaked out a bit, probably tomorrow, I'll report back on its functionality...

Here is the shot from the listing. The finish on it seems decent.

Thanks Chris. Yeah I saw that one on foredoms website too. Seems these 3/32" shank quick changes are the replacements for the old 3/32" latch hook handpiece. Probably a lot more versatile too.

I am still waiting for my one of those I ordered  ::)

Have a peek down the tail end and see how well they have finished where the drive goes in  :-X

This morning I took the clip and ball retainer off the shaft end, and opened up the hole where the flex shaft goes in - now goes on the shaft just fine.

All works fine, though the bearings feel more like the ones in my MasterCarver brand flex shaft handpieces than the super-smooth ones in my Foredom handpieces. The MasterCarver ones are sold by one of the woodcarving tool catalogs here in the US, patterned after the Foredom and the handpieces are interchangeable. Its held up pretty well over the years, but is not quite as well done as the Foredom is. This new handpiece is about on that same level - cheap but functional for the occasional user, if I was a professional jeweler or carver, using it every day, I'd spring for the Foredom every time.

Has anyone got any comments on various motor hangers, either those offered by Foredom or other? Mine would probably get a lot more use if I had a dedicated hanger for it. Foredom seems to have made a few upgrades to theirs recently though they are in the $59-79 dollar range.
