New to this board
« on: November 10, 2017, 01:20:25 PM »
Hello Model Engine Maker,

by chance, my friend Peter pointed me to this forum. My name is jorge and I am a retired communication engineer situated in Old Germany near Frankfurt/Main. When I retired, I installed a small mecanical workshop with
- Sieg X3 Super mill, which I converted to a 4 axle CNC version including a new spindel and a motor to run up to 12000 Rpm
- Austrian lathe made by Klippfeld
- Drilling machine made by German company Flott, version TB 15 plus
- German clockmaker lathe made by Lorch
- Universal Tool and Cutter Grinder
- Hacksaw, electrical
- various tools.

Then I started to learn how to use all the stuff and decided to go according to Kozo`s book "The Pennsylvania A3 Switcher". This is a fantastic introduction in metal working. In the attached
picture you can see the result up to now:

Saludos

Jorge

Hello Jorge, looks like you are off to a wonderful start on machining with that locomotive! Those Kozo books are fantastic, I learned a lot from them. Welcome to the forum!

Hello Jorge, your loco model looks beautiful!   Be pleased to see a few pictures of your workshop set up at some time.  I have a Flott drill, a TB6, they are very nicely made machines.   Dave

Hi Jorge,
Welcome to the forum!
Nice looking A3!  That is going to be one of my future projects too!  Your's looks very nice.  How long have you been working on it to get to this point?
Thanks,
Kim

Hi Kim,

don`t get frightened, I am working on it since 2005. This includes the installation of my workshop and getting acquainted with all the tools. lt took me one year to convert my mill into a four axle CNC-version.

Wow, Jorge!  12 years!  That's some dedication! And a little longer than I'm expecting (hoping?) it will take me :)  I'm certainly no whiz at this machining stuff.  I putter along and enjoy myself, and lean new skills, but it does take me a while.  Still, I'm pretty excited about getting started on it - maybe next year sometime, after I complete my current project.
