Finger Treadle Engines
« on: November 09, 2017, 09:15:08 PM »
Finished up the two finger treadle engines I built for my sons...

The brass flywheels are 3" in diameter, profiled on my lathe and the spokes cut out on my CNC mill.  The steel crankshaft is machined from solid with 1/4" diameter journals.  The base is built from steel angle iron on the sides and 3/8" thick cold rolled steel on the bottom.  The wooden bases are made from Walnut.

Very nice, Chuck! Those certainly do look satisfying to play with

A very nice gift, for sure!  I'd be pleased to have one of those :)

Sort of like a craze that's doing the rounds here Fidgets, a description of an average one, a plastic square 60 mm 70 mm x 10 mm thick with an 8 mm bore bearing race in each corner, and one in the middle. I'v seen some at $NZ 2.50, and up to $NZ 10 plus. I might just get some for the bearings.
Those motors will be heirlooms in future years, something that someone in the future can say "my great granddad made that in 2017, wonder how he did it?
