Had I realised just how busy I would during retirement I would have had a gap year between working and retiring so as to ease myself into it. The kids do it so why not us?

That's what I have been using the last six months for  :naughty:, it has taught me:

It is possible to spend all day, every day in the workshop  :slap: and when you feel guilty about spending too much time in there I can do some gardening

Friends outside work are more interesting/fun and have more time to share than ones inside work  8)

There are not enough hours in the day, even without work  :ShakeHead:

Jo
you nailed it we do not time to attend w**k to much to do in the workshop or just enjoying life   :whoohoo:  :wine1:  :DrinkPint:

once you get your mind set in the right place for retirement its wonderful place to be

a couple of caveats.
you have a income that meets your needs ( mine is index linked )
you have something to keep the brain in good order
and a interest that you enjoy

then its a good place to be

My aim is for a accurate part with a good finish

1, Retirement is going to require me to spend more than I do in work  :noidea: The only way I can see that working is if I start doing something stupid  :ShakeHead:

2&3, Designing and building model engines is good for those  8)

Commissions, Jo.

They were far more profitable than the marketing side! I'm pretty sure most of the marketers here would agree that there's/was little profit in selling kits. I never ever, made a profit, always broke even. Mind you Alex did say you needed a " good " accountant!! ;)

I built many of my engines for customers, so many I've lost count. Actually the hardest part was letting them go. All that work and care kinda adds up. However the nice cheque always softened the blow.

A visiting customer for an R.L.E. a Liverpudlian, said... I know what R.L.E. stands for.... right little earner!
Funnily enough he was right, I sold many more than any other!

Cheers Graham.

Seems like the numbers have gone up from 1000 yesterday to 2000 today Jo and Capital radio said some were going at Guildford, what's that they say "it could be you"

Commissions are OK but most patrons like a finished running engine ;)

My accountant must be good, first thing he said when I mentioned some income from model engineering related stuff was "any expenses"  :) If you can claim expenses that are about the same as the tax then that's quite good.

Hi Graham,

Maybe that didn't come over well... My retirement monthly allowance is three times what I have been spending while at work   :-[ I have been trying to learn how to spend money by buying machine tools and castings sets but I am not good at it: the only known cure I know is having a partner who spends money like its water  :stickpoke:

I was thinking of getting someone to help do the garden...I will have to learn how to go out to restaurants for meals rather than cooking for myself and stop drinking the cheap wine and try to stick to the quality ones. As someone once said to me: "Money isn't everything - unless you are short of it " If it comes to that then I might do commissions but by that time I don't think I will be capable of making swarf.. in the meantime all my engines are staying  8)

Jo

P.S. I have found a space for a box of Sphinx castings  :mischief:

Hi Jo.

I'm envious, my pensions a pittance.

It'll be a couple of days before I feel well enough to venture into the workshop again, however I'm pretty sure there's a set left. Single or twin flywheel? I prefer the single myself as it allows folk to see the very noisy but unusual valve timing wheel in action.

Oh, and I've managed to find a complete set of drawings for, shh... you know what!   ;)

Cheers Graham.

I think it is best I go for twin and can leave one off if I want  ;)

The sshh drawings sounds desirable  :naughty:
