Hi Guys.

Ohio, a big state?

I built 3 engines back in the 80's that were commissioned by the Horning family from Gallion Ohio.

I've never heard of them since. I'm curious to know what or how they fared.

The engines were a Sphinx in twin flywheel a Penultimate also in twin flywheel and a Retlas.

Just curious, Graham.

Hope to see everybody there!

Graham, Ohio's a fairly big state. Galion looks to b be at least a hundred miles from Zanesville. The engines you describe don't sound familiar to me..

I took photos of the majority of engines present at this show last year: You can examine them here:

http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,6446.0.html

If the family you built them for are show-goers, it's just as likely they would show them at the big NAMES show in Detroit. We'll keep an eye out.

Thanks Tim.

I did the 2000 NAMES show at Wyandot, it was the most entertaining model engineering exhibition I have ever seen.

Here in the UK the exhibits are mainly static wheras your exhibits were " alive " there wasn't many that weren't. Even a half scale Case steam tractor was trundling to and fro!

I would love to see those engines again, perhaps a reader here could do a little detective work?

Cheers Graham.

Well we made it as far as Hartford.  Will be staying the night and visiting family and should be in Zanesville plenty early tomorrow morning.

Things are shaping up in the hall. I will get some pictures tomorrow bout 8:30 after everyone is setup and ready. Seems like everyone has a new project being worked on. Lots to look at already.

Y'all, being over 1000 miles from the show, I just couldn't make it. Anybody who went have any comments or pictures?

It was a great show. I have never seen more exhibitors there.

It's not what you call a big show, but by my count there were 5 members of the Internet Craftsmanship Museum (https://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/alphalist.htm) present!

3 of them being Craftsman of the Year (George Britnell, Ron Colonna, Lou Chenot).

That's impressive, but not meant to demean the other fine modellers who look forward to this show every year.

Seemed a little light on spectators, but that's just my impression.

I have some photos I intend to size and upload this evening.

Well put, Tim.  Small friendly show, but top notch models on display by some of the best builders out there.

I had a great time.

I have to agree with Tim.
This year had some of the finest model builders attending. Lou Chenot's Garwood boat is unbelievable (well so was his Duesenberg) There was Ron Colonna, Cliff Roemmich, and many many others. There were a couple of tool vendors along with Roy Sholl from S&S ignitions.
The variety of engines and models was excellent and represented all types of steam and I.C. types. It's a shame that the spectator attendance is so sparse given the location and exhibits presented. I don't know what their attendance numbers were but I'm guessing there couldn't have been more than 60.
It was great meeting and talking with old friends and seeing current projects.
I didn't have time to take pictures but I'm sure between Tim and Steve Huck there will be a nice presentation of the show.

I agree it is a fantastic show, visitors were treated some of finest models around.  I enjoyed visiting and sharing information, Friday is a great day to poke around.

The DeBolt's, George, and the rest of the crew put on a great show and I thank them for doing this each year.

Kerrin,

The tractor with the words Preble & Keith is a Holt steam traction engine with caterpillar treads. The companies Holt and Best were later merged to become Caterpillar. Cliff Roemmich told me that there are none of this model still in existence, and only 4 photographs that he was aware of. He modeled the tractor from the 4 photographs!

Thanks for those Tim.

It is interesting to see the different type of models you get at shows compared to here, On another forum one member was complaining that they only saw a handfull of IC engines at a recent major show, yet IC gets far more of a following where you are.

Tim, thanks so much for the show coverage. Lots of great talent on display there, too bad Ohio is so far away. Maybe next year I can plan a trip to include the show.

Tim,
Thanks for all the photo's. Almost feels like being there. Thanks for slipping your engines in there. You've done some painting on the Acme, it looks good.
The unfortunate thing about the timing of the Zanesville show is it's proximity to my anniversary. :) Makes it difficult unless combined with a trip out east to visit family which happened a few years back. Any info about the flathead V8 in the making, wooden mold for sand casting? I have to admit your photo of Gary's Tiny is very good and makes it look massive. :lolb:
