A few days later.

Only recently did we discoverer that Robinson engines of this era were fitted with " wick feed " cylinder lubrication....

A run is imminent, just waiting on Viton " O " ring and a Sievert 8842 burner to arrive.

Cheers Graham.

Thanks Jo.  :)

For those that might be interested, here's the lubricator and a " fag packet " drawing.

Cheers Graham.

Looks good, any progress on your projects or are they distancing you from the workshop?

J

PS don't let Jo catch you using metric and imperial on the same drawing :mischief: Will you have a vertical tube and wick or just let the oil run down a small hole?

Thanks Jason.   :)

Well.... I can't be blamed for the mixture, in fact the guy apologised for the mix himself.

The original had a vertical tube within so as to use the " wick " effect rather than a blocked flow.

As for the " other " projects I'm in the midst of making a fixture for cutting the missing skew gears of 6&12 tooth @ 6 DP as I write. Just received a 6mm Carbide ball cutter and am negotiating for a gear cutter too.

Cheers Graham.

Thanks Roger.

Alan used what remained of the paint left over from his earlier Robinson project.

Meanwhile....

My order for the gas burners arrived this morning. Definitely a lot dearer than they used to be but not as
" heavy " as eBay. Prompt service too. They seem to have gone a little overboard on the packaging though!
A little box would be more " environmentally " friendly....

Cheers Graham.

Looks like the boys have a few more engine projects coming if they are going to use all those burners

Not really Jason.

Mathew has got about 50% of his Gardner done and I bought one for stock. I'm sure I mentioned a ways back that they are prone to " clogging " from the " heavy ends " that reside in the bottom of Propane gas cylinders?

Cheers Graham.

Yes you did when I felt mine was not heating the tube very well.

From the " historical " perspective....

Courtesy, Geoff Challinor, Anson Engine museum.

Look at the size of the 10 HP Oblique....   :o

Did the larger ones vary much visually or were they more or less scaled up engines, that would chop a lot of chips!

Hi Jason.

Attached picture, courtesy Geoff Challinor.

This is probably the largest, pictorial survivor. Could be a size " Z " or a size " A "

The picture was handed down from the grandfather who worked there. We're uncertain as to why the plate is stamped size " X " the engine appears to be unpainted and the crank guard carrying the magneto is very probably a much later addition.

As you can see the size is just scaled up to accommodate the increase in horsepower.

Don't forget that the internal combustion engine ( Robinson's included ) did just about everything before electricity and the electric motor took over.

Cheers Graham.
