« on: September 10, 2017, 08:09:51 PM »
This engine is losely based on the AlKo 14cc from some pictures I saw on the web .
First I made my own drawings in Invertor and then I could start the build .
The engine is alraedy finisched and it has made its first run , I will post pictures of the work regulary .

I started with the backplate of the crankcase , thread cutting M42 x 1 , from "back to front" , so I do not cut in the collar  :)
This is useful when I cut the thread in the crankcase , so that I can try that it fits .

Next some photo's of making the cilinder liner and cover , the liner I made from 42CrMo4 steel , same as the crankshaft and the cover from 6082 aluminium ,
the outside of theliner is a few 1/100 mm larger than the inner of the cover , the liner go's in the freezer and the cover is warming up on the Alladin stove for a shrink fitting

That's some very nice workmanship indeed and a really nice photo coverage of the process   I'll look forwards to watching the rest develop and and see and hear it running in due course.

Almost finiched , I had to make the coverplate transfers , inlet manifold and clean the OS carb. ultrasoon
For the piston ring I used one from an OS FS-62-V , but because thats for a four stroke engine
I had to make a little slot for the piston ring pin , with a jig I made for it ,
so it would not turn around in the cilinder , and I still had to put the pin in the piston ring groove .

Pin in piston ring groove , first drill with 1 mm 5 mm deep , than 1,1 mm 2 mm deep
cut a piece from a 1,1 mm bore and press it in the hole , than gring it to the exact lenght in the lathe .

Hello Jef,

This is a nice two stroke design. The ports look they are designed for seriuos power output as far i can see.
Do you rely only on the magnetism for the hall magnet to stay in place ?
Will the engine power an airplane model or something similiar ?

I am looking foreward to hear it run !

Best regards,
Thomas

Thanks guys

The power output will be moderate I think , look at the timing photo

The magnet is 4 mm in diameter and pressed in a hole of 3,9 mm ,  I think it's pretty stuck

I am gonna use the engine on a KeilKraft Falcon that I am building

Now that's going to make a real nice combination Jef - lovely design the Falcon . Do you have a nice set of inflatable wheels for it?

Years ago I set out to make a Jasco Flamingo - do you know it? Similar size but huge wing area - the larger ribs needed near a sheet of balsa  :o. I never did finish it but sold it on - to non other than Ron Moulton would you believe (forgive the name dropping but that's just who bought it). He never finished it either - have no idea what happened to it after he passed on.

Thanks for the link Jef but my building days are well over I fear  ::)

That's running really nice - pretty consistent and considering it appears open exhaust not too noisy either. What size prop do you have it on there?

Tug

PS just clicked on your link expecting to see your Falcon - yep, that's the one  :)

That's a great result Jef - swings that with consummate ease.

Do you have any drawings you'd be prepared to share - I've yet to make a sparkie and that would fit the bill just nicely  :)
