Model Parts Suppliers
« on: August 16, 2017, 06:37:46 PM »
I must be missing something, but I can't find any listing of part suppliers on the forum.  I am currently working on the Philip Duclos Odds 'n Ends Hit 'n Miss Engine and I don't feel capable of making some of the parts.  I am looking for piston rings, oilers, grease cups, spark plugs, ignition parts, timing gears, etc.  I am sure that most everyone here has favorite suppliers for the hobby and I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.
Thanks,
Jon

Have you tried the "Outside Links & Suggested Reading" sub-forum, down in the General Category section?  There are several pinned subjects that have links for various types of parts (Like small screws and bearings) and there's likely other links there.  If not, this would be a good place for this thread to be to collect that info.

For gears, one place I have used is SPD/SI.  They have a lot of gears in a lot of sizes. I've ordered from them in the past.

Or you can make your own gears :)

I'll have to let other people give you pointers on the rest of it, since I don't have experience in the IC world.

As the forum members come from many countries it is difficult to list all the possible suppliers (and some will not ship overseas  :disappointed: ). If you post your build and come to a specific bit you need I am sure the members will suggest local suppliers for the part.

Thanks everyone!!  I found most of the parts I need with just a quick check of the sites you provided.  I have saved all of them and will spend more time on them this evening.

Kim - I'm very new at this hobby (this will be my 2nd engine) and I would rather buy the gears then try to make them.  Next time around maybe I'll try them.

GordenL - When I decided to tool up for this hobby, I found Enco and bought almost all my tooling from them.  When MSC took over, I switched to them.  Not as cheap, but great quality.

Jo - I'm a novice on my second engine (1st one a PMR #1) and I doubt that I can document a build in any coherent fashion.  I will try to post progress reports.  I posted my PMR#1 when it was first finished but have not shown it completely done, mounted and painted.  I will try to get that done soon.
