After All That Heaving And Thrashing About
« on: August 15, 2017, 01:29:44 PM »
Just about 13 months since I started re-roofing the shop and generally make it a bit more habitable.

Most of it done now ... I think ...

Piccys: Att.

P.S. I should point out the sweeping brush and dustpan are there for visual effect only.
I do not have the relevant 'Certificates of Competence' to operate same ..

Well organized shop, really like the white cabinet with the slide in boxes for storage.

Very nice, lots of storage, well placed electrical outlets and seems to be well lit also. I am envious of the space and organization :)

It wouldn't be any good for me, I wouldn't be able to find anything.

Thomas;

I have a lot of those boxes, they have loose compartments that can be assembled in many configurations to suit the contents. They are fairly robust and will take some weight. I used to have them stacked one on top of the other and it got a bit of a pantomime when I wanted the bottom box ...   so I made those racks to take them. Got rather sick of making the alloy brackets though. (  I made 2 racks the same, 144 bits of alloy total ).

Yes, Dr. Jo. ..... Quite right, no swarf!
And why no swarf?
'Cos I'm exhuming your  :censored: onions!
Anything else I can do for you while I'm at it ?

I dunno ..  :headscratch:

You might be OK

I can find anything in there in a second or two.
Providing, of course, I don't want it ....
Other stuff is a different matter.

No need to feel envious Bill. The other end is an absolute shambles and the nice bit probably won't stay like that for long ..  ;D

Very cool!  I can see that being a nice place to spent some fun shop time!

So, what is the raised red section of the work bench, just to the right of the vise in that first picture?  Just curious...

Thanks for the inspirational pictures!

Hi Kim

It has, or had, a matrix of threaded 'M8 Pronged Tee Nuts' in it.

These were for occasionally used machines to be secured, but no room or real reason to be permanent.

ie. Hegner scroll saw  which I still have. Stuff I no longer use/have: a small bench grinder, a motor to power a flexible drive, a small compressor I once had for air brushes, a cheapo drill press which was rubbish but useful etc. Just means they can be secured, used, then removed.

It is held by 4 M10 studs & nuts at the corners, I can get it off in a couple of minutes, and stick other holes in if reqd.

I think most people would have a very legitimate complaint.
Very legitimate.

It's not their shop.

Nice place!

Zee:

I think your shop is going to be far more impressive than mine.   In fact, I think you should invite all of us around for a swarf warming party ...

Dave:

Just a length of 1 1/2" x 1" x 3/16" Alloy angle. Holes and slots to suit the tools.  The scheme does work providing you put them back after use, even for a short time, then it does keep the bench relatively clear.

Anyway folks, thanks for the encouraging words ...    BUT    ... it's a work in progress. The other end is less impressive.  :(

I don't really dislike wood-butchering but it does create a ghastly mess. That DeWalt saw just fills the place with dust. ( Did once fit it to a vaccy, but it doesn't make much difference).

Very nice. Really like the white racks with the yellow handle storage units. I my consider building something like that for myself. Thanks for showing.
