Survey request
« on: August 14, 2017, 01:46:36 PM »
For the last 2 days when I visit this site, a window appears asking me to take a survey.  Cash is promised.  I just disconnect and try later, and the survey message no longer appears.  I smell a skunk :ShakeHead:.  Anyone else seeing this?

Was the survey asking if you had any excess castings?

Not seen anything myself when visiting.

Nope, nothing unusual here either. Does it not pop up again when you reboot?

OK, did a McAffee scan and nothing was found.  Did not show up since the scan

It seems I've seen that, or something similar before.
It's been a while though.

My suspicion is that it has nothing really to do with this site but rather the browser.
Although it may get triggered by some set of keywords on this site.

Might be worthwhile to include what browser being are using in the survey.

May be similar to what I sometimes see when I close my browser (chrome) and there is still one or two smaller windows (some kind of ad) hiding behind that appeared on their own. Even when I visit a single site and don't cruise.

Besides shutting down you might view or clean out cookies.

EDIT: I don't know enough about McAffee but is it possible it does some cleaning without notification? i.e. only notifies if something 'bad' is found but otherwise just cleans?

Zee,
I think you're right about the Browser.  It seems to be part of a Google Chrome 60 update on inspection.  Yes, McAffee runs a scan once a week and only notifies when something is found.

McAffee only checks for virus and your problem is different. A possible cure might be Malwarebytes or other adware infection checkers ....

Or it might be a "browser infection" as suggested by others.

Best wishes

I installed a new (to me) pop up adblocker called "StopAd" and that seems to have solved the problem.  This is a new computer and I hadn't gotten around to doing this.  Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions,

Cheers,

Phil,
I must admit this is not a problem I have had. Although I must admit to using SeaMonkey as a browser and Malware bites at startup.

I use Malwarebytes Premium. The standard Malwarebytes is very good and worth trying for free but the premium version does a lot more.
One thing you have to be careful of is, if using an antivirus program there can be a conflict. This can easily be corrected by following the Malwarebytes Help.
