New member from the middle of England
« on: August 08, 2017, 01:32:44 PM »
Hello all, I came across this site by accident and liked what I saw.
I am a retired Quality Manager/Engineer with a background in aerospace and military engineering.
I served my apprenticeship at Crossley-Premier Engines Ltd, a maker of large stationary engines for generating electicity and pumping water and oil.
I have a 1931 Austin Seven car and am interested especially in early steam road vehicles.
My current project is a 1 1/2"inch model of an 1858 Burrrell with Boydells patented endless railway.

Hi, Interesting project and would love to see the pictures. Is it a bar stock project and have you designed it your self from illustrations. Your tag is not Burrellbox  i see or is there a Fowler in the pipe line, yes we do like a bit of joviality here !!! Do you know the website   Graces Guide ?? this has a complete access to The Engineer from 1858 and other early magazines that you can access !

looking forward to more posts

Many thanks for the kind welcome. I'll try to answer some of the questions. My username of Fowellbox derives from my first own designed engine which was a Fowell-Box Patent engine made in 1877 by George Fowell who had been the chief draughtsman at Burrells where his father, Joseph, was the works manager. They both left Burrells, along with a number of employees, to start a new company. I made a 3" inch model of one of their engines which used a patent by William Box to enable an engine to be sprung.
This company should not be confused with Fowler of Leeds.
My present project is an 1858 engine by Burrells incorporating Boydells Patented Endless Railway.
I'll put some pictures up when I find how to do it and where.
Many thanks to all,
Brian

Looking at other parts of this site, it appears that pictures can be included with a message. It this correct and are there limits on size of picture?

Hi Brian,
 Welcome to the family!
Oh YEAH photos please!
Just below the reply box is "Attachments & other options" click that & follow along. BUT please....cause Jo might get upset..... make your photos somewhere about 800 x 1200 pixels (I think).
I guess a new thread would be an idea as well.

Cheers Kerrin

Edit,
Just caught up & see you have it sorted!...NICE MODEL!

Brian, 800 x 600 is an ideal picture size for the forum and plenty large enough to show details as well.

First welcome, it is a good forum.

Second, there are two ways to post pictures in posts. One is as Kerrin posted, using links here. A second is to use some hosting site and link the pictures to a post. Include the address of the picture between
Code: [Select]
[img]http://lister-engine.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10011/DieHolder-4.jpg[/img] tags and it will show up like this.

Using the first method all the pictures show up at the end of the post as thumbnails, you must click on them for larger viewing. The second way allows pics to be interspersed in posts, full size. Ade made his hosting site available for MEM pictures. I'm now using this without problem and the pictures stay with MEM.

Bill mentioned 800x600. I find 700x?? or 650x?? right for me.

If you have trouble posting pics just ask. There are a lot of folks here who'll go out of their way to help you, and to see some more pics. :-)

Thanks.

Hugh
