I have had a couple of photo's in response to my Anzani queries:

It was much too easy  drive the distributor off the cam shaft and put only 3 take offs on the back of the distributor using the appropriate three out of five 144 degree positions (one at the top and two at the bottom - not the top side ones).

The six cylinder also only needs the extra three distributor positions added no change to the gearing which would have been needed for the original magneto but not a distributor.

And one I came up with  : The original Les Chenery design used 32DP and 40 DP gears. with a pair of 32DP 20/16 for driving the cam, these could be replaced with a pair of 40DP 25/20 gears which are both finer cut and means only one set of gear cutters are needed.

  I can't find the crank/cam gears anywhere on the Zimmerman drawings. Reading through SIC it would seem they should be 24DP gears of 24 and 48 teeth respectively. The distributor is driven directly off the camshaft so no more needed there... The spur gears in the oil pump are 48DP  and I still don't have 48DP cutters 


Onto the next set of castings: another 4 cylinder engine but I am sure there is at least one 8 cylinder one hiding somewhere around here

Been there and the waiting is not much fun!  Lucky for you to have a casting or two to fondle.
I am pretty sure I remember the doctors telling me cast iron is good for recovery.
But then again, they "said" put ice on it and I "heard" eat ice cream!

I tried a little casting fettling this morning, not much it causes twinges 


The second batch of model castings have moved off of the spare bookshelf and onto the fondling table

The Aeronica drawings show separate cylinder sleeve and liner - caused by Les' original desire to have an Ali casting as the finny bit. Whereas the original had steel or CI finny bit. Looks very do able as a single part 


There are the wrong number of fins on the cylinder head castings  Joe, Joe whatever where you thinking you copied Les' drawings without checking.

I said very similar to Jo yesterday when I suggested she found some light work for C2 and the little sexy mill. I then had second thoughts as there seems to be a trestle table full of castings stopping Jo getting to the mill

Its the twisting of my tummy that I have to be careful of Those two mounting studs for the 5A and Swan reversing gear were a bit of practise.  I found that I can turn Mr Silky's handle ok, moving his tailstock is challenging but turning the die causes the most use of the muscles that I am supposed to be resting.

But I have been spotted playing in the workshop and have someone coming to check up on me today.. I wonder if I can get an hour in the workshop before my spy turns up

We have eye balls in the sky ( no not the police being naughty with there helicopter) but nice quite drones watching for you in the workshop and texting mum
