;D You could offer to send him some bits of wood so he can knock one together!

NOPE....he sent them....I got it.

Appears no harm done to the box from the pictures....just no lock now.

It appears to be a "Union" chest...can't quite tell but I think its either mahogony or Walnut....that should clean up nice with some fresh varnish and some minor repairs....like a lock. ::)

Ah well ......we progress.

And Pete...its wasn't so much the lock...it was how this guy was behaving in phone calls and emails....just really wierd...I gotta think that "2" in the picture was a lot number at an auction...so I'm not totally sure what happened...but the most probable is sellers remorse...if you look at similar boxes on fleabay...they're going for 3 times the money...and more.....I think he put a buy it now price on it and screwed up....

OK

Got the chest today!   It is beautiful!.....he screwed up, the picture is very grainy, and the grain of the wood is hard to photograph.

It is Walnut!   and it's in good condition....minus the lock!

The my collets will fit in the bottom draw perfectly!  I'm going to put my tool holders in the next shelf...and measureing tools above that.

It could use a coat of varnish....I can do that.

Dave glad to see it was not a scam. If its still a good deal with out the lock then you did OK. All wood tool box are easy to clean up and repair farely easy.

That is in pretty good shape. I have a wooden one I bought from Grizzly and I never lock it. It stays open just like your photo.

Nice . I have never locked mine either.

I normally tuck the cover behind the case, rather than slide it in the slot at the bottom. I keep various items in the slot like a notepad, needle file packs etc.
