Glands etc. Just for Jo
« on: June 20, 2017, 10:40:00 PM »
OK ...

If you  have a part that looks like 'Flex Conduit 16mm' forget it. I have no 16mm Flex tube left so you can dump them unless you need to use some, and it needs to be of a type that fits.

The sort I have hanging about here is the 'Flex Conduit Gland 20mm'. Black and white. Glands and tubing to fit. It's the cheapo stuff from Toolstation etc. etc. The same type seems pretty generic.

'Stuffing Gland 1' ...I cannot remember what type of stuffing glands I gave you, they all look much the same, they all have a rubber bit that squashes onto the cable and grips it. You can see the 'colletty' plastic fingers I was prattling on about. Stuffing Gland 2,3,4. shows assembly. When it's on you should not be able to pull the cable out.

On 'Flex Conduit Gland 20mm' you can see how they hinge open. The tube is laid with so the raised bit bottom of pic. fits into one of the corrugations, the gland is closed up and the clips engaged. You can now screw on the locknut ( after you've shoved it into whatever ) They are not watertight by any means and a bit floppy but a dab of PVC pipe  adhesive works wonders. Just wait until it's set before you fit the locknut  ;D  otherwise it's chop it off and start over time :facepalm2:

Off to ZZZZZZZZ now.  Time for my beauty sleep  :LittleAngel: ( Never worked before but you never know eh ??? )

Dave

Add them to the pile  ;)

Dave, you do know that Jo is now going to have to buy a load more machines so that she can use up those glands when she wires them in, would be a waste of good glands otherwise :LittleDevil:

Hi Jo

You get the black conduit & glands ...  :)

Do you want the firewood as per pic. ?
Superbly crafted into fun-size bits by my goodself.
Mostly bits of 2x2 & 4x2.

Righty-Ho, Sarge. Back to cable glands ...

Kindly ignore that prattle from me on the phone this AM regarding PG sizes, the product of a deranged mind.  :old:

Att. is a table of PG gland sizes. which I have copied from Cable Glands Direct site  There are Metric & Inch stuff knocking about which is why I got confused. ( Nothing new there   :headscratch: )

I Have put 3 PG9 glands in the box which appear to be 15.2mm OD thread.

I think I have some more somewhere  :help:

I just went out and checked on the Hegner and  my age is getting the better of me :ShakeHead: The internal of the thread is about 16mm not outside as I said :slap:

I came up with a novel idea to get the gland the right size: Have a look at your Hegner and you should find a gland where the mains lead goes in and next to it a thread for a second gland ...Can you see where this is going  :naughty:

If the gland fits its the one I need

OK, will do.

It may be it's some weird size though.

I've had that Hegner for ages, all sorts of things have changed since then ...

No problem to look though.

True, Stuart. IIRC Some stuff in the '60's was 5/8" or 1/2" BSCon too.
But this is a German m/c so I doubt it's inch stuff. ( Not impossible though ... I have known BSP threads on Dutch origin machines.  )

The Continuing Saga ....

The spare orifice on mine is to the side.

After a whole lot off faffing I removed the blanking plug. ( Stuck with paint  )
Then spent about 10 mins. measuring the damn thing to work out what it might be before I noticed the plug has PG9 moulded into it ....  :D
So, here are pics of switch-box and the plug with a PG9 gland next to it.

See att:

 Mines on the bottom and is the same size as the one the mains leas goes in one.  Lets give it a try and if it does not fit I will have to remember not to try poking my finger through the gap round the wire in order to  :zap: myself ... I could always secure the cable with a nice cable tie to the other cable

Did you mention the colour of your new wheels?

Ice Silver Metallic ( Going back, last 2 cars were blue, then a silver, and 2 blue ones before that. Thought I was due for another silver ...  )

Not a lot of colour choice in UK for Foresters  :( Did think about a bronze one but none at dealer to look at, and I wasn't too keen on ordering one I hadn't seen.

If I don't like it I can always swap it out  :lolb:

Dave

Like this but I don't know what it looks like for real ...

https://www.subaru.co.uk/forester

The colour you see in brochures & t'net are not always true.
