Hi everyone
I haven't been very active on here of late but that doesn't mean I haven't been doing anything.
Here are a few pics of the things I have been working on.
1. Tidy up of Club (HVMES) Triple Expansion Engine
This engine was built by a father and 2 sons years ago and was not really finished to a very high standard. To top that off it has sat in the corner of our club rooms collecting dust and other crap for a number of years.
This is a pic of one of the reversing linkages
And a cast flaw in the LP cylinder
So far I have completely stripped the engine down and have started cleaning up and repainting.
I will add some photos of progress later.
Another toy (
I mean tool ) arrived in the workshop earlier this year too
A lovely old Bridgeport Mill, complete with lots of flaky paint and oil crud
Once you start on a project like this you always seem to be finding something else that needs fixing. The current state of the machine is that I have had to strip the head down to get to the stripped Quill drive gears that run of the Bull gear
I have also been inspired by my good friend Joco and his Bandsaw cart he has built.
Since he LOVES welding I asked him to make me one to which he willingly obliged.
I got the basic cart home last week and proceeded to add the final components (The risers blocks and drain tray)
After a lot of crappy welding (Gasless MIG + useless person behind the torch) and grinding I had this
Only one problem (can you see it? No commenting from you Joco).
Some idiot had welded the risers on the wrong side of the frame
So out with the cutting wheel and after some more welding and grinding I had this
Last night I got it to this state
Even with a drain fitted
So there has been plenty to keep me busy. I have been saving my pennies for a new lathe and hopefully soon I will be able to order a Hare and Forbes AL-336

Cheers
